Hiya.

I think I've found a lump on one of my guinea pigs (which I will do a thorough check on once I get home from work).

What do people do - do you take another guinea pig with them for company or just take them on their own?

i take the pair especially as cinder and blaze are inseperable and i do not fancy an unhappy piggy. blaze and cinder can be in the same room but as long as they are out of sight/contact blaze will wheek for his friend if he is out, or cry if cinder is out.

Mine always take a friend, and my vet encourages you to take their mate whenever they have to stay in too.

When Claire had her eye removed she took both Blossom and Petal with her. Simon put her straight back in with them following the surgery, and she recovered so very quickly. In fact by that evening she seemed completely back to normal.

Blossom is the one that I think has a lump - her and Daisy are inseperable too and always wheek for each other when out of site so it might be more comforting for her to be there. Also means that she has someone to wheek to. I have an old small cat carrier so the 2 of them will fit comfortably enough in there.

definitely take a friend for company.

I hope it is alll ok, best to get it checked.

Usually rule of thumb, if yu can roll the lump around between your fingers its nothing to worry about.

keep us updated xx

I take them both. The only time I took Connie by herself was when she ad her X ray and had to stay at the vets all day x

Always take tehm both especially if the one who'd be staying behind is the one with separation anxiety...

Yup ours always go in pairs too, even when one is having surgery - our vets think it is wonderful that my lot travel in pairs!:) I hope the lump turns out to be nothing sinister.

I took Squeaky to the vets by herself which was a BIG mistake... She wouldnt sit still, she wheeked constantly and wriggled and wriggled and wriggled...

I would take them as a pair...

I think it eases the stress for them if they have a friend with them :)

Seems to be unanimous .... take a friend. I always did, and they really do seem to find it comforting.

Mine go alone but only because they live alone (unsociable b*ggers :))) However, i do take my bunnies in pairs & do agree with everyone that if they are paired/in a group it is beneficial for them to go together. I hope she's ok :)

Well, I'm come home and done a thorough check of her and I can't a lump anymore - whether I was just being silly (and still half asleep) this morning or it has gone but it is definitely not there anymore. Will keep an eye on her, just in case.

My Joe has been to the vets that many times, he always takes his mate Jimmy with him. As soon as i open the carrier door once on the vets table Joe strolls out as if to say 'I'm here again' and Jimmy stays in the carrier usually at full stretch fast asleep they have been that many times they are comfortable going.

Hope your piggy is fine. x)

Good news then ... hopefully all is ok.

If I have a bonded couple, I tend to take both ... one just goes for the ride! :))

2 of mine have lumps and whilst the vet can feel them i try at home and cant find them at all...rolleyes...

We have no idea what they are but they dont sem to be cancerous and the piggies are eating and drinking and fine so me and the vet are letting them get on with it...

Thats the problem with piggies... So much blubber to sift through to find anything (well at least with my lot...) :))

what happens if your guinea pigs only tolerate each other.
Mine aren't best buddies but the put up with the other. They are middle aged rescued sows that are living together. no scraps but they do kinda grumble from time to time. Would I bring them both?
I'm dropping my girl off tomorrow morning and am considering bringing them both to keep each other company.@)
