Guinea-Tia-Flossie
Here I am going to tell you all how to take great Guinea Pig photos. I will tell you the basics on how I take my pictures.
Equipment and Setting Up
OK, so apart from the obvious (a camera) you may need a tri pod or something to rest your camera on to get your photos straight.
Find an area with lots of light, and a sturdy surface like a table or chair.
Backgrounds
The things you can use for backgrounds are endless. Sheets, towels and walls all make great basic backgrounds. Although be creative, use a piece of wrapping paper to create something bright, or use props to add interest.
For example this picture of Flossie was taken with a purple towel as the background
Taking the picture
If you have a guinea pig that likes to run around and never stays still you may need another person to make sure he doesn’t run off or hurt himself. It can be tricky keep an eye on your guinea and taking pictures at the same time.
Pictures are better when your guinea pig looks happy, so wait until he is comfortable in his surrounding before taking any pictures.
Then it’s as simple as point and click!
Photoshop
This may seem a little complicated but I’ll try and keep it simple. (This part is for those of you who have digital cameras)
So you’ve got your pictures on your computer and they are too dark or too bright. Photoshop can fix these things simply.
Firstly open your picture in Photoshop. I think you’ll all agree this is a great photo of Guinea but it’s too dark
So, first of all you need to click on Image at the top of Photoshop, this is a drop down menu so then you need to click on Adjustments which is another drop down menu, so click on Auto Levels and this will brighten up your picture.
Too bright? Click on Edit at the top of photoshop, and then click on Fade Auto Levels, then just play about until the photo looks good.
And viola, you get this……
One last thing
Photos are great when you capture Guineas just being Guineas, you know eating, sleeping and being silly.
I love to have days where I keep my camera by my side. You never know when that one in a million photo will come along, I spent all day watching Guinea and Maddie in their run and managed to get this picture of them trying to sleep in their pigloo.
Or this one of Flossie and Beau, when I had them on the sofa just playing with them
So now go and have fun with your camera!
