Talking?

When will my little guy start talking to me? I hear all these stories of other peoples talking to them, but i have not heard anything yet?

Also is it ok to whistle to them or do they not like it?

Your little guy will start talking when he feels comfortable in his surroundings. It sounds like he lives alone so right now he doesn't have anyone that knows his language to learn from, if you know what I mean.

I don't think they would mind soft whistling There are loads of ways to "talk" to your piggies. I usually smack my lips (and talk in an embaressingly high- pitched voice... )

Back to your piggy - he'll talk a lot more when he has someone to talk to. I would recommend another piggy friend for him, this will help with his confidence too. Whereabouts are you? There should be a rescue near you that can help you find just the right friend for him.

my rescue piggie Marty has only been talking to me for a couple of weeks, he was completely silent before that and he has been with me for nearly a year. Some piggies just take a little while before they feel safe and relaxed.

take heart, now Marty has started talking he seems to get braver every day and even talked to my OH yesterday -c

mine dont really make much noise however a very clever person on here told me to whistle at meal times and they soon realise what it means so will start wheeking when you whistle

My piggys dont talk I think they shout at me for their food. When my Dad looked after them he said none of them talked. But when I go in the shed they always do. Having 7 is fun and a lot of weeks. drool

A little piggy will talk more if he has company of his own kind - settled youngsters have a constant chatter between themselves unless they are fast asleep. Please consider getting him a friend unless you really have so much free time to spend several hours with him daily for the next 5-7 years to fill HIS needs!

We have some great rescues in this country that will help your boy finding him just the right friend and give you support and advice during the settling time.

Above all, give your piggy TIME to make himself at home.

Some piggies do prefer to chat to a friend
I know that when we lost one of our first piggies his mate, completely lost his voice..........he only ever chatted his toofies or did other sounds, never ever wheeked again
Listening to them chat with another friend is such a lovely sound i could listen to it for hours x)drool

I am with him for atleast 5 hours a day talking to him and petting him, only takin him out once though because I want him used to me.. Hes hard to get at first he runs away when i try to grab him so I'm keeping him in there till he is tottaly used to me..
