Sadly I found Tanni in her forever sleep yesterday morning. She seems to have had a sudden heart attack while munching on some of the hay that she loved dragging all over the cage sometime during the night. She'd been suffering from persistent bloating in the week before her passing, so to some degree I am very grateful that her death was a gentle one.

Tanni had just celebrated her 6th adoption anniversary at the beginning of the year. She was around 6 1/2 years old and since Nerys' passing the oldest Tribe sow.

Tanni was a dumped hobby breeder sow that arrived in rescue as a last minute unnancounced addition in a box with several very neglected unwanted boars. Her new owner could obviously not be bothered to breed Tanni as trying to handle her was like trying to keep hold of a flame (hence her Welsh Tribe name, which means "Little Fire"), so Tanni had a very narrow, but lucky escape!

Despite her skittishness, Tanni has been very happy in her new home.

The first generation Tribe in early 2011 - sadly the last survivors Nerys, Hywel and Tanni have now all passed away

Tanni never came to more than tolerating being handled for any necessary grooming, especially when her hair at the back suddenly started growing out.

(please wait for the next instalment!)

Over the period of a year or so I ended up with a number of rather similar looking ginger piggies, a couple of which actually arrived sight unseen as emergencies or rescue choices, which Tanni tended to hang out with a lot.

With little Hedydd during a fungal bath --- "Oooh - new neighbours!"

As Tanni grew older, she started to increasingly take against any new arrivals at the Tribe and after some jiggling around eventually joined Hywel and the Peru mob as the group she was happiest with.

With the full Tribe in 2013

With the Peru Tramps - specialists in messing up a freshly cleaned cage in record time!

The last year of her life she was living in a pair with Ffwlbri, who was the last companion she still tolerated. But Tanni came really out of her shell being the new top lady and loved to beg for food at any movement in the room! She also still enjoyed snuggling up with Ffwlbri.

Tanni is yet another now much missed familiar face to join the growing mob at the Rainbow Bridge... It is a lot quieter without her gnawing on the bars and her loud reminders that dinner time is coming up soon!

You write the most beautiful tributes @Wiebke
It looks and reads like Tanni was a special lady indeed. The photo of her with the Peru mob is priceless.

I'm sorry she had to go, but you were the best piggy mum she could ever have, and I'm sure she was as happy as someone can be. Lots of hugs for you Wiebke x
And beautiful tribute. Especially loved her picture with the Peru Tramps, love those fluffly cheeks.

I am so sorry for your loss Wiebke, but what an amazing tribute to a very special lady.
And how wonderful that she chose her time and her place, and passed peacefully on her own terms.
Huge hugs from Switzerland tonight

Oh Wiebke I am so sorry for your loss of such a beautiful piggy with such an incredible history. She sure fell on her four adorable little feet the day she scurried into your life.
It is always sad to see a cherished pet go to the rainbow bridge but you know more than anyone just how special the two of you were to one another.

Rip Tanni, little fire. What a lovely tribute. She sounded wonderful. I love the tribe picture!

Beautiful Tanni, you will be very missed by your mom and friends. I am so sorry Wiebke, you fought so very hard for her. She had the most amazing time with you and truly knew what it was to be adored. Huge hugs
