Hi I am the owner of three beautiful piggies and I am thinking of adding a 4th. I would like to have a teddy and was wondering if they needed any extra grooming?
Thank you

Short-hair teddies will profit from a groom with a soft brush every now and then.

Because of their dense coat, some can be prone to dry flaky skin and hair loss that persists even after your vet has excluded either mite (hay and mange mites) and any fungal skin infections.
My Nerys had this and now my Nye while my other teddies never had any issues but it is a well known breed specific problem. Important is that you really eliminate any other potential cause first as 'teddy skin' is a default diagnosis. Nye for instance definitely had both types of mites (hay and mange) because he arrived here with a lowered immune system (and a nice infestation of hay mites,) and it took quite a while to build up his immune system.

Dennis is my teddy. Occasionally he has patches where his skin shows through but he has had that since he was little so it's just him. He had mites once and I noticed that cos the hair around his nose was much shorter and thinner than the rest. I rarely groom him.Grass time 1.webp
