Looking for a little advice, I've noticed Misty has got some dryness on all four feet, for now I've just put a little coconut oil on them and they already look much better. Is this okay to do every so often to help the dryness? Also am I right in thinking this is common in Teddy/Rex breeds, I've never had one before my Misty bum, just generally looking for a little advice 😊

My experience of piggies with teddy/Rex genes is that they do have skin that is prone to dryness, however if this is a new problem on the feet please just check that this might not be something more serious such as ringworm. A recent intake to our rescue all had dry skin on feet that then turned into hair loss and was ringworm.

Thank you, however her feet have always been on the drier side, but it looked a little worse today, (but not severe) hence why I put a little oil on it. I sure hope it's not ringworm developing cannot deal with that all over again 😩

This was the dryness which prompted me to put the oil on, should I be concerned about this being ringworm?

Please can another forum member correct me if I'm wrong, but @dannif_piggies pictures look like just the start of spurs on the feet. Some guinea pigs develop flaps of tough skin that protrude from their front feet, these are what spurs are -- more info can be found in this thread. Keep an eye on them, and if they get bigger carefully clip them back with some regular nail clippers.

Some forum members, including myself, have found Gorgeous Guinea's F&M ointment great for pigs who are prone to spurs, it seems to inhibit the growth somewhat. They aren't there because you've done anything wrong, or because of the sort of bedding you are using -- some pigs are just prone to them!

I agree - the photos do just look like the start of foot spurs to me, too.
