Teddy - the piggie who thought he was a dog

Very sad to report that we lost Teddy yesterday and feeling very lost without him today. I had to take the awful decision to have him PTS mid-surgery because the findings by the vet suggested a very slim chance of recovery. So big bill and dead piggie - never good. He was only about 3 years old
I do want to celebrate Teddy though as he was one of the most confident piggies we have shared our house with. He really thought he was a dog and just wanted to be in the gang of humans.
He came to us when a few months old from @pig in the city and she kindly bonded him with our single boar Willoughby.

He quickly settled with us although his relationship with Willoughby had its rough patches and tested my nerves! They were not a best friend boar pair but they were fine. And Teddy just wanted to be a dog anyhow.

He was a big bar chewer which drove us mad but totally not bothered if you told him off. He loved all food but especially fennel fronds and herbs. He was 1.4kg so a chunky one!

He leaves an enormous gap in our family - he was a super confident character and we are so pleased he was part of our lives. He always slept in the open and also loved his teddy - his favourite pillow. Sleep well Teddy

BIG HUGS

A few piggies break the mould and are one of a kind. Teddy was obviously one of them - and you have given him the loving home to really unfold his full potential!

Having one of them in your life is a huge blessing indeed but they tend to leave a gaping hole because of their uniqueness. Most of my own mould-breakers have also only had comparatively short lives - but as they have packed so much into that short time, they leave you with plenty of special memories which may take some time for you to be able to appreciate as you usually can only do that once the acute pain has eased.

You have made absolutely the right decision. It is however always doubly gutting having to pay a huge bill and not having anything to show for it but your heartbreak. :(

My thoughts are with you and Willoughby.
 
I am so very sorry that you’ve had to say goodbye to your beloved boy. It’s so tough when we are called on to make such a difficult decision at short notice but you did the absolute best thing for him out of love for him. Huge hugs xx
 
I’m so sorry for your loss. He was an amazing piggy and gorgeous too. Popcorn high at the bridge Teddy. Take care. ❤️

My Minx (2004-7) is still my most special piggy - never mind the now over 70 that have come after...
The time I had with her was all too short, too; and I went into full pet bereavement over her for the next 18 months. The Tribe adventure came only after that, once I was open again for taking a new direction and circumstances were finally right for having more piggies. Nevertheless, the pain of her loss was well worth all the joy she has brought me in the long run.

Teddy will always have a very special place in your heart and your life. You will always have those precious memories to warm your heart with when the times are dark. :tu:
 
Such a lovely boy and a wonderful tribute to Teddy. I'm sorry he wasn't with you longer Laura, but am so happy that he had a wonderful life with you all and Willoughby.
The photo of him with his teddy us especially poignant. Rest in peace beautiful Teddy xx
