Ted’s has a Growth in his ear 😢

Just caught up with this, poor little chap, hope its nothing too serious! Sending healing wheeks, glad he's enjoying the spring weather and the grass. He's probably much less worried than you are! X

Thank you, yes we are worried sick, Ted carries on as normal, Happy boy!

Yes here we are that’s most appreciated, thanks Debbie x there are a couple of marks were they took the failed and second biopsy. It looks a bit red now, but he’s poked and prodded!

That reminds me of the blow out i had years ago on the work van, the AA came out because we couldnt get the wheel off, and put our spare one on, he done it up too tight, a bit further down the road, 3 of the 4 wheel nuts sheered off and the wheel almost came off near cromer.

Thanks Pawz His hearing seems fine, in fact everything seems fine apart from that horrible growth x

Aw, then he’s going to be a big boy, Ted is a long piggie, here he is stretched out - long! A lot longer than his brother Bill and 100gms heavier, Bill is chunky but a little shorter in length

Thanks @Betsy, yes is been very upsetting for us all. Hopefully this time next week we should know what we are dealing with. At least Ted is happy and doing everything as usual and doesn’t seem to be affected by it, just carries on as normal x

Ted obviously isn't aware anything is wrong if he is bimbling away quite happily.
 
I have shown the pic to Simon and he suggests that you wait and see what the histology suggests it is, but says if it isn't growing, then he would be inclined to say to leave it alone. He says it's hard to see from the pic what it is likely to be, but if it goes deep into the ear, it could be challenging to remove and he says if Ted isn't being affected by it, then it may not be a good idea to go ahead with surgery and risk losing him, if he can lively happily with it, even if it was to cut short his life a little. He asked when Ted is due to see him again and I said I thought it wasn't for a couple of months. He said if it isn't growing, then he is happy to take a look at it when you next visit to get Ted's teeth checked.

Yea i know how you feel, i had a gerbil die from a scent gland tumour caught too late, when i looked back in a picture about 5 months before, i could see a pimple on his gland. ( not saying ted is that sick) but scent gland tumours are a big common problem in male gerbils

Aw, thanks Debbie for asking him and the helpful advise given. I think we have come to this conclusion too. The operation is going to be such a risk. The vet says whatever it is is not a straightforward capsule to remove, it’s deferentiated. He could take months recovering with infections, nerve damaged, head tilt, even if he gets through the operation and there’s no guarantee that it will not grow back even if its benign. I think I would prefer to leave it and see how he goes on, the vet says he may have a few months or a year depending on how (if) it grows and I would prefer he had some quality of life as he is, even if it’s only relatively short.
That’s super of Simon to have a look at it when we come up next time for a dental, which we will be very happy to hear what he thinks. Ted seems fine at the moment, the vet doesn’t think he’s in pain but given him Loxicom .18 gms x 2 daily. He is not scratching it or aware of it, it looked a bit soar last night but two biopsies, no wonder. It looks ok today the pinkness has gone. Will let you know what the results are, it may always be useful for people in the future as a reference.

Yes, these things can catch you out, especially when the animal Has not presented as poorly x
