My grayham had his second dental about 3 weeks ago, then he had an abscess somewhere behind his eye but that cleared although we are still on antibiotics. He started picking up a bit but today i noticed heavy breathing so I checked hi teeth and I am a bot concerned. My vet said his teeth don't grow in a way they can rub off each other but after his dental he stopped eating for a bit and he was on baytril so I might be wrong but do you think it this might be the reason why his front teeth are so long and his breathing heavy? He also struggles with food. This is how his teeth look like now. There is some food on them as he tried his best to eat grassDSC_0340.webp

Och! Have you got any advice on how to prepare the best emergency syringe food for piggies? Vets are closed now and I owuld like to feed him at least a little bit of something so I knwo he isn't going to be hungry. Thanks

Thank you!
Also, any advise on how to keep them chewing their teeth as he has never been keen on grinding his teeth!

It looks like Grayham is going to have ongoing dental issues. Many of the sanctuary piggies need dental work every couple of weeks and as long as they have it, they live normal lives and can eat perfectly well for themselves. However, they do need that quick tidy up of their teeth every two weeks or so. With regard to syringe food, you can just mush up the normal guinea pig nuggets. I put some in a cup and add boiling water to them and allow to cool. Often the piggies prefer this to Critical Care.

When are you next at the vets? If you want a chat over the weekend my contact numbers are on my website www.teasnorthampton.co.uk

Those incisors do look long. Unfortunately if the teeth don't meet they won't wear down so regular dentals are needed as Debbie says. One of my boys has been having them once a month since he was 4 weeks old & he is now 2 and a half years old.

Thank you for all tour advice
Unfortunately grayham passed away this morning
I am still in shock

I'm so sorry for your loss. My nearly 3 year old piggy, Mousey also had heavy laboured breathing just before she died 11 days ago a week after an op. My thoughts are with you. R.I.P. Grayham. xx

I am ever so sorry - you did all you could for him and nursed him through all his health problems.
RIP Grayham
