Teeth chattering is a sign of annoyance. I’ve seen people say that for their piggies, it is a sign that they need the toilet and want to go back to their cage. One of Mine does it when I go out to them at dinner time but I do a spot clean and general tidy up before putting the food in to them and he isn’t happy that I am taking so long!
There is a thread on the behaviour section about what their sounds and behaviours mean which you may find interesting.
Harry (our baby) chatters his teeth during cuddle time if he hears a noise that scares him.
Anything new scares him, so he does this at least once a week, in our less than quiet house.
So for Harry it is a fear response, but he usually settles quickly when the noise stops.
Last week the 'scary' noise was one of the kids clipping their nails in the upstairs bathroom, while Harry was downstairs being cuddled.
Mine teeth chatter during cuddle time too, usually when I take too long to give them a basil leaf of some other herb. Think it’s a sign of annoyance. If they need to pee they usually start moving around and ‘talking’ to me. They are funny.
