Teeth Grinding, Lying On Her Side/back, Not Eating Much :(

Please help! My poor Sprinkles :(

Yesterday I noticed she was lying on her side, not eating and not moving, despite one of the other guineas walking over her. I put her in a separate cage, watched her for a bit & decided to take her to the vet.

The vet couldn't find any broken bones. But did say it could be congenital as she is extremely small and boney for her age (she's always been a great eater). Couldn't determine what was wrong so gave me this emergency food stuff to mix with water and feed her 4 times a day. I've done that today.

Also noticed today that some of the corflute in the cage has been nibbled on. It could have been her? Would corflute do this?

I don't know what to think. She's grinding her teeth constantly & It seems like her back legs aren't really working, she can't walk around properly. She keeps rolling on either side lifting her legs in the air and trying to get comfortable. And Sometimes it's like she's going into spasms when she does this, & it lasts up to 20 minutes at a time :( :( She'll eat/drink a bit here & there but not much.

I've had her in tea towel most of the day trying to keep her warm and letting her rest on me. I feel like I'm keeping her last days as comfortable as possible because I can't see how she's going to get better in this state!

What do I do? Do I just keep doing this or should I put her down? I know that sounds mean but watching her like this almost feels mean :(

Personally I would get her to the vet. They may think otherwise but it sounds from your description that she needs to be PTS. Am sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
 
:( Oh ,dear, Poor Sprinkles! She does sound in a bad way! I am no expert but it sounds to me like some sort of stroke. Sadly, there is not much you can do, except as Helen says, have her put to sleep. Very sorry you are going through this. Is she very old? :bye:

It's late in OZ isn't it, she really could do with seeing an e-vet as soon as possible, nature can be very cruel and unfortunately it may drag on for her and she could be in pain. If possible please consider taking her ASAP

It's midnight here & I'm a single parent so I can't wake all 3 kids :(
I'll have to take her first thing tomorrow morning. It's not going to be a good day for any of us :( :( My poor Sprinkles.
 
Very sorry to hear this- she could possibly be having seizures from your description. I totally understand u being a single mum therefore cant up and go. All you can do is keep her comfortable and calm, and see vets first thing. :(
 
So sorry to hear that your girl is unwell. I can only echo what the others have said. It sounds very much like there is something very wrong and she needs to see a vet as soon as you practically can manage. Be strong, you're doing the best you can for your little girl. x
 
Firstly I would go back to the vet and get a second opinion. Explain her symptoms in detail and then get there advice. That way if she does have to be put to sleep you know you did everything in your power to try make her better.
 
Thank you so much everyone. It really means a lot. Sprinkles was put to sleep today. Its been a hard day for all of us. Who knew you could cry so many tears for something so very tiny :bye: She's at peace now xx
 
So sorry to hear that but you did the most loving thing any of us can do for our pets. Sleep well little Sprinkles, free of pain now and forever. x

While it is heartbreaking for you right now it is important that you remember that you loved her so much that you were able to put aside your pain to help her when she needed you the most.
She is no longer in pain and can now popcorn free until you meet again :luv:
