Hi, I am looking for advice for my 7 year old guinea pig. In the last few months I have noticed that his teeth keep breaking. He loves gnawing at fruit and grain sticks but recently these seem to be causing him problems. Of course I have limited his access to these but I know he needs to have something to grind his teeth down.
He has a generous supply of veg and has not previously had any problems like this. Is this a sign of old age or could he be deficient in something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What's the rest of his diet like? I'm not sure what would cause it, whether it would be old age or a deficiency of some sort (or just chewing inappropriate things) it may be worth a trip to the vets to get him checked out. If he's being given plenty of hay (particularly stalky types) then his teeth should be worn enough by that which means you could leave out the gnaw sticks if they may be causing problems. Apple or willow sticks are favourites of my pigs for chewing on, they may be better than the fruit/grain ones.

He has pellets which contain added Vit D for teeth and the usual added Vit C, so this with all his other veg I would be really surprised if it was a deficiency, but then you never know with old age he may just not be absorbing the nutrients as much as he should be.
He seems pretty happy otherwise and it certainly doesn't stop him from eating!
