Hi All,
Am hoping someone may be able to give me some answers.
About three weeks back my sixteen month old boar started picking at his food.
I thought maybe he needed a tooth check as he was drooling when taking food.

The vet (not my usual one) said she thought the teeth were not bad but she
would take them down a bit, she also said, when he was in she would give
him a whiff of gas/air and check his back teeth. She found nothing so we hoped
he would pick up after the front teeth trim.
He did not, things got worse.
he was on baytril

I am moving your thread to Health and Illness as it will get more views there.

What is his weight like? Is he pawing at his mouth or masticating, making over exaggerated chewing motions? sometimes after a dental it may take a while for a piggie to eat normally again. Did the vet give you any metacam which is a painkiller for after the dental work in case his mouth was sore?

Where abouts do you live, if in the UK someone may be ale to suggest a vet that is good with teeth.

Poor pig, I was going to suggest pain relief too, and another possibility is oral fungal, that can make them paw at their mouth too and also their breath would smell like a damp dishcloth. It can be very painful as it tracks up the throat to the mouth. I would say it is best to get your pig to a competent dental vet to check for both dental issues and oral fungal.

Did the vet just clip the front teeth or did she treat the crucial premolars? If she only clipped the front teeth, she may have made things worse.

Please weigh your piggy daily to check the real food intake. If necessary hand feed; a piggy needs to eat the equivalent if about 120ml in solids or liquid over the course of 24 hours to keep its weight. your care can be as important as any vet care. if you haven't got recovery food at home, use mushed up pellets and cut off the narrow front bit of a 1ml syringe (which you can get in any pharmacy if necessary).
Here are tips: http://www.guinealynx.info/handfeeding.html

Please, where are you located? We may be able to help you a lot more if we know that!
