Brian the Guinea Pig has recently been to the vet with suspected dental problem on 3 occasions recently.

Prior to the last two visit he has been wet under the chin, (believe this is called the slobbers). He wanted food but when given food did not seem to known how to eat it, (if this makes sence). And would ask for more food even though he had all his favorites fresh in front of him.

On 1st and 3rd occasion he was anethatised, so is being syringe fed and watered at the moment.
And pain relief.

On this third occasion the vet could not find anything wrong with his teeth or mouth, but rounded the edges. On the first visit to the vet the back teeth were "filed".

Could you travel as far as Northampton to the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic? Simon Maddock sees dental guinea pigs from as far Edinburgh and is currently the most practised and experienced guinea pig vet in this country when it comes to dental problems.

I would be interested in trying the Cat and Rabbit Clinic, but i would have to persuaded my other half as he is her pet.
Also the problem if he needs regular visits...
Do you know if the vet Simon Maddock will only use anethisia if necessary for dental work?

Simon does dental work without the need for GA.

Simon only uses anaesthesia when necessary; he does conscious dentals, especially for follow up treatments. That is the key to his sustainable success.

Once treated, in order to rebalance the dental system, teeth need burring as soon as they start to overgrow again. At first, this is usually much too soon for another GA, but as the system is settling, these intervals get longer until you can get a away with a yearly check up. Most vets only use GA and only treat when the teeth have fully overgrown again, so they never get as far as the rebalancing.
