well here we go again after my boy Junior started eating last week after he had dental work it looks as if he is struggling to bite when he tries to eat his vegs and cant eat hay (ive even chopped the hay into tiny bits) when he tries to eat his teeth make a kinda crunching noise its hard to describe its like when you chatter your teeth but this is more louder and slower like

i know the noise you mean. does sound like he may need another check-up. how long is it since his dental? x

its would be 3 weeks this Thursday though he was at the vets last Monday and she said his teeth looked fine :hmm:

Please be aware guinea pigs will also make a grinding noise with their teeth if they are in pain :( Has he got any pain relief ? I would try some Metacam if you have some for him to see if that helps at all, if it does then he has pain somewhere.

now hes still 860g the same weight as the day he had his teeth trimmed x

hopefully it's just taking him a bit longer to adjust then. eddie continued to lose weight even with round the clock syringe feeding. i know he ended up having something else health wise, but i think you'd notice some loss in weight if he was really struggling. although depends how much you're having to syringe feed i suppose. i really hope he begins eating soon and won't need another dental. x

Hi yes I gave him some metacam a few hours ago he only makes that noise when he is trying to chew something x

He such a good boy with his syringe feed he takes about 35-40ml each sitting lol

He's likely to need his teeth tidying up again by now. You really need to get them checked soon or you could be back at square one in no time at all. It may just be a tiny spur that is causing a little pain, or the teeth starting to trap the tongue or rubbing against the cheek. It could also be that something like an abscess is starting to cause pain, as we have found in a lot of dental issues, there is an underlying abscess causing the problem. Sometimes this isn't immediately obvious, but has obviously been causing pain and pressure, which is affecting the eating.

Yeah he was due a check up on Monday but I'm going to phone the vets just now and see if she will see him today x

Just called the vets Junior is booked in tomorrow at 2.30pm the vet that usually deals with him is on holiday so they have booked him in with the other exotics vet that works there :)

Good luck at the vets tomorrow. I hope everything gets sorted out quickly. Let us know what happens.

They can grow back out of true pretty quickly (my vet had said often within 4 weeks or so, if they are off they will need to be redone.) During the time when Sundae was having frequent dental issues, she would typically start to show signs of her bite being off again around 3-4 weeks after the last dental, so he may need another check. Lots of luck at the vet's!

Hi the vet checked his teeth and mouth and all looks fine, he is eating better now and has started munching his hay again which is great and he has started gaining weight again :yahoo: he is going back to the vets on 22nd dec for another check up as I wouldn't want him to fall ill over xmas when the vets is closed.

So last night we had a pamper party :lol!: both boys got a nice warm bath a wash and blow dry and a manicure (nails cut) then I put a big fleece blanket in front of the fire and we had a pignic lol a big plate with strawberries, kiwi, grapes and some apple then half way thourgh they both crashed out in the middle of the blanket out for the count :zzz: they must have been knackered.
