Toastie
New Born Pup
Hi All, I'm new here and guess I'm looking for some moral support and encouragement that my wee Toastie will be ok. Just over 1 month ago she stopped eating or doing the toilet, I took her to the vet and they said they couldnt find nothing wrong with her, gave me some medication to try. She still wasnt eating but was behaving normally. I took her back to the vet and they said they couldnt find anything wrong but did tell me about an exotic vet in the area that I had never heard off.
I took her to the exotic vet and they said she had spurs on her back teeth so they kept her in and performed a dental. They also took some xrays as she is balding around the flanks (has been like this from a young age) Brought her back home and could see she was desperate to eat but only ate tiny amounts of soft veg and wouldnt touch hay, Took her back to the vets and they kept her for 2 days and carried out an ultrasound which showed she had gas. They managed to get rid of most of it and I brought her home. She was eating slightly more than she had been but still wasnt eating hay. Also noticed when she was eating she made a wet clicky sound. I had been topping her up with critical care which she now takes from a spoon quite happy and doesnt need my to syringe it. She had started doing the toilet although her poo didnt look as big and as normally formed as it was. She would take water from the syring and she always looked like she was desperate for food but kept doing some weird thing with her tongue and clawing at her right hand side of her mouth.
I have had her back at the vet today and they have checked her over. They said her stomache sounds are more normal than what they were 2 weeks ago, however, due to lack of eating and no hay her teeth have grown again and are slightly trapping her tongue. She is booked back in tomorrow for another dental and I am praying this time around it works. She has lost a lot of weight and is down to 600 g ( she has maintained this weight for the last 2 weeks) I weight her daily, thankfully she hasnt lost any but she isnt putting on.
Vet has said if this dental doesnt work I need to think about putting her to sleep as if she continues she will keep losing weight and end up in pain which is the last thing I want.
Has anyones piggie recovered from anything similar? I know they are all different, guess I'm just clinging to hope that she is going to be ok. She is only 3.5. We lost her partner (Bean) in march and at first I thought she was lonely but Bean would bully her and since Bean passed Toast is actually a lot happier and she gets plenty time out her cage and bonding time with me.
I am heartbroken at the thought that I may have to get her put to sleep and would do anything to help her. I have tried all different kinds of hay - meadow hay, timothy hay, hay with dandelions, hay wreaths, hay rolls, ready grass, dandelion salad. All of which she loved before but now just picks a piece up and drops it again
