My guinea pig seems to have pain when biting down on food. He's unable to eat on his own :( whenever he tries to bite down he "gags" and rubs his face. Once food reaches his molars he's able to chew no problem. His teeth don't seem overgrown and I've taken him to the vet multiple times... they wanted to do a $5,000 cat scan and then a $3,000 molar grinding. It was after I left the vet that I realized it's his front teeth that are bothering him. Could he have some sort of sensitivity in his teeth that I can get medication for? I don't trust the vet after my visits.....

Is there another vet you can go to?
Have all his teeth been properly checked by a vet (this often requires an anaesthetic to do so)?

Please do try and see another vet as there could be something wrong with the jaw / incisors that the vet has missed.

When my late Ella had a problem with her incisors, she would gag and pat at her mouth and eventually stopped eating altogether as it was very painful for her x

I’m sorry your piggy is poorly. I hope you can find another vet who can solve the problem. Good luck

There's so few exotic vets where I live but luckily I found another earlier today! I've also been blending fruits/vegetables so he can eat something besides critical care

I’m glad you’ve found someone!
Make sure the blended vegetables does not become too much - critical care needs to make up his 80% of daily food intake to replace hay intake.

Let us know how you get on with the vet

UPDATE: He's getting surgery on his teeth tomorrow but there is a chance he might not make it through surgery

Final update he did so well! They were able to file down all the points he had on his molars plus his front teeth! He's currently chowing down on mixed greens (his favorite)
