I am wondering what you all use to keep your guinea pigs teeth down. What sort of chews do they like and what treats/food contribute? What products do you find your piggies favor? Will their teeth ever need to be cut down by the vet?

Sorry about all the questions ;)

Pellets, hay and natural toys will aid in keeping you guineas teeth down. You should be able to get natural toys from most pet shops and over the internet. O0

Hay and grass promote the correct eating motion for keeping down Molars Hard Pellets and veggies are abrasive but 'just' crush the food and do not have the same action that is needed (though abrasive foods are good LOL!) Thats why any good hay is a must for their diet. I've seen piggies that have been over fed sugary foods, their teeth are black pitted. Teeth need to be trimmed (without anaesthetic) only if they become malocluded, get spurs or one breaks and the others don't grow back true. There are vets and Rodentologists that can do this without anaesthetic being used. Best to find one now :) My own piggies (and the rescues) seem to prefer munching on ooodles of hay to anything else, they turn their noses up at chews- natural or not, though apple twigs get the odd bit of interest :)

Are you a member of CCT? YOu are entitled to a free dental check (your guins are LOL) if so.
