Hi everyone. So the other day I did something incredibly stupid. My 5 girls live in a 5x7 ft cage & so I was standing in there doing some spot cleaning, when I horrendously managed to step on Annie who got underneath my foot all of a sudden.I know how ridiculous this sounds & how awful It is-I've had guinea pigs for 7 years and have never done something so cruel.I know I need to watch my step more carefully,i always do but I was caught out.I was immediately in tears feeling the worst I have for years but she toddled off seemingly unhurt. She has a vets appointment booked at a local Goddard Veternary because I think they are better with guinea pigs. She is moving around fine,I've felt her body and nothing seems painful (obviously I will need a vet to look) and she's running around doing her usual.However...she is struggling to eat? She can eat food when it's cut into small cubes or through a syringe. She is going on Wednesday. She has an appetite but just can't seem to pick up food.Does anyone have any idea what awful thing I've managed to do? Do you think the damage is repairable? Her incisors look normal to me.I am dreading explaining to the vet what happened,Ofcourse I will be truthful because I want Annie to recover and feel better but I just feel like I will be labelled as a cruel owner for doing something so silly :( I really hope Annie will be okay. She is one of my rescue piggies -I've only had her for 8 months.I know only the vet can give me answers, but does anyone have any idea on whats happened to her teeth? I'm so nervous to hear the veredict :( Sorry for the long post.I hope I've posted this in the right area

I'd recommend an xray. That should highlight any issues like a fracture or break in her teeth or jaw

Hopefully she's just feeling a bit of pain, so make sure you come away with some pain relief medication.

Try not to blame yourself, accidents happen, you didn't do it on purpose and you're doing what you can to help her.

Let us know how it goes at the vet.

Thankyou.I will update as soon as she's been seen :(

Can a break/fracture be repaired?

A good surgeon should be able to fix it, but it may not be that.

Update : I've taken Annie to see a reputable vet with piggy experience.Annie has a wobbly tooth and one thats chipped. Her teeth were levelled out a bit but she said the tooth will most likely fall out on its own.Ive got some antiseptic to help with her chest & neck + some baytril and metacam.I have been told to continue feeding critical care and see what happens with this tooth.Ive booked another appointment for next Monday for an X-ray if nothing has improved

That sounds like some positive news. The metacam will help keep her comfortable while things start healing. I've had an injured piggy whose tooth broke below the gum line and it fell out a day or two later. The new tooth grew back quickly with no problems but just keep an eye on it

Thankyou,I will keep a close eye.Hoping it falls out and grows back with no problems.Do you have any advice on Baytril? I wasn't prescribed a probiotic.Do you recommend me pick up one myself? Someone has told me I should

@Sofia Great news about it not being a break.

When you're using Baytril it's usually best practice to try probiotic with it.

I tend to use Pro-C which you can get from Pets at Home but there are many others on the internet.

Accidents happen, when you go to the vet tell the truth about what happened, you won't be labelled cruel.
Glad she's OK.

Of course accidents happen. We've all accidentally bumped someone or fallen etc. I once fell stepping out of the piggies cage, with one in my hand. The whole cage got mangled and it was only sheer good luck that they were all unhurt. (I, on the other hand had a broken toe, a staved hand and covered in bruises - not to mention my purse being the price of a c&c cage lighter). Don't beat yourself up...unfortunately these things happen in life.
