Just wondering if you know where I can find a photo of what a healthy set of front teeth look like
I am getting conflicting advice re my guins teeth
I have been told they are too long and Ive also been told they are ok

I am still a little confused :{
Three are eating fine even though their teeth seem a little long
both upper and lower teeth are straight not curved
my little poorly one is eating but only small bits
his teeth were cut on the weekend and i think they were cut too short

is there a photo front on with the mouth closed?

After last nights molar examinations (how cruel of me!), I'm sure they'll be glad to know it's just the front teeth I'd like to see. :)

Your poorly piggie, were his incisors the only ones that were trimmed, and if so do you know why? If there is an overgrowth of the incisors (i.e. they are too long) then it's fair to say the molars need a thorough examination, as overgrown molars will impact on the incisor wear.
 
A compilation of photos of healthy, normal teeth would be good, help people see what is normal. No real need to show photos of what isn't normal really, it'd be interestng but not as helpful as simply focusing on what is normal. A project worth putting together for sure.

Zig does nt seem to eat much have decided to put him back with the rest, he maybe pining for the others
Zig is pooing and eating bits but not as much as I would like.

Re Zig I wa stold that his front teeth although straight were too long. Ive checked dads and they seem the same and he eats well. Seeing whats normal would be fantastic

Are you able to take a pic of their toofies love?
I know for a fact if their toofies are cute back too far, it hinders them :( you'll have to encourage them to eat and cut up all food in thin long strips makes it easier for them to pick up. Watch and see if he can actually pick up food, if not, you'll have to help him totally for a couple of days, i learnt this when a certain vet (who no longer is at my vets THANK GOD FOR THAT) cut back Dukey's toofies too short, poor little man tried and tried and couldn't pick up his food, therefore he went off the dam food........ which then causes them not to be ground down :...
 
I have been cutting food smaller but maybe not small enougenice
Will grate food up and syringe baby food up
How quick do their teeth grow?

As long as you feed your pigs plenty of 'crunchy stuff' and chew toys , that they use, I am sure the teeth will be fine.

When I go to the vets, particularly after Bug, I take in a big breath when they check the teeth. However, I should no not to panic, I took Peter Gurney's advice and give things that work their teeth. Bug only lived with us for a few months and previously was only given cucumber.
 
It's true that providing forages (hay, grass) and hard foods is very important to help dental wear, but don't forget that some pigs are genetically predisposed to dental problems, so sometimes no amount of hard foods and forages will prevent the problem.
 
A sticky is a topic that stays at the top of certain sections of the forum. Alternatively, a thread in the reference section serves a similar purpose (easy to find information).
