This thread is based on my regular column "Tidbits from the Tribe" in the Guinea Pig Magazine (issue 14).

Some things are the same whatever the species...

"DON'T say it! Don't even THINK it! I'm not in the mood!"

"So I like hanging out with trash! - And what hole in what bag?"

"Oh, just having a little peek at the neighbours' flat, it's really nothing...."

"Auntie should know better than telling me not stick my nose into things!"

"Get out of the way - here I come!"

"TOTALLY unfair to make me go to bed before midnight! That's just so mean! Girls want to have fun, too!"

"Oh great! I bet I'll hear no end about stealing and crash driving other people's mobile homes..."

"THEY say they couldn't wake me up for breakfast!"

"There is NOTHING you can do to make up for cutting my fringe like this... You've TOTALLY RUINED it!"

"I wannabe an action film stuntwoman."

"But I am not going to end up a boring adult like you - NO WAY!"

Love the last two photos :)) What a little darling. My girls went through their "teenage" phase too, they were little monsters!

Ha ha Bless her little madam! Very very pesky :)) Ilove the one of her in the food bowls

Great photos, she is such a stunning little lady and has grown so much form the baby I remember. Utterly x) x)

What a gorgeous girl. x)x)
My Rio is 2 1/2 years old and still acts like a teenager rolleyes

Sitting here with the stupidest grin on my face - she's adorable, and your captions are wonderful.

My little surprise baby has certainly grown, but she's not lost any of her cheeky personality and is always in the vicinity when mischief is underfoot!

It's amazing how time passes! I remember her appearance and now she is a proper grown up girl with attitude all of her own!

Tegan is brilliant! I would love to know her story ("surprise baby"?)! I would also love to know at what sort of age a guinea pig is a teenager?

Aw bless little Tegan! I love the one with all the food bowls, she's a right little character!

Tegan was born about 10 days after I'd picked up a pair of sows that had gone through a full 10 week pregnancy watch from a very reputable and well set up rescue, where they had been stuck without any offers for several months. Mummy Tesni didn't show at all and fooled both me and the very experienced rescue lady; both of us have dealt with pregnancies before.
So you can imagine my total shock when I found a little bundle of delight in the pigloo during the poo patrol, just before we were due to pick up my elderly MIL from hospital and settle her into her home again. Of course, I stayed home! mallethead

Turns out, the rescue lady had let a supposedly safe over 5 weeks post neutering op boar enjoy a couple of summer days on the lawn with her sows and get over his first excitement of being with sows before going to his new home. No fault of hers (she was VERY upset) - it's like winning the lottery: very rare although not completely unheard of. That is the reason why I am banging on about a full 6 weeks post op wait so much now!

As you can imagine, it caused quite a stir on the forum at the time! And when it comes to babies, Tegan Syndod (Welsh for "beautiful surprise" ) was totally adorable...

Here she is drinking from her mummy Tesni:

And a few weeks old:

Guinea pigs reach full adulthood at around 15 months old; that is when they generally stop growing and their hormones settle down. Tegan will be 2 years old at the end of October; the Guinea Pig Magazine article was published this spring.

Thankyou Wiebke, for the background on Tegan - what a super little ball of fluff she was (and still is, of course!). A surprise indeed to find in the pigloo! The meaning of her name is lovely.
Thanks for answering my other question as well.

Awww she is a real cutie & I love reading all about the tribe in The Guinea Pig Magazine, what an unexpected but gorgeous surprise for you!
