One big step forward: Tegyd has met all girls yesterday during a session on the lawn. She had started to make friendly overtures through the bars in the previous two days, so I judged that the time was right for a serious try.

I started out with my two gentlest sows Hafina and Telyn and then slowly added the others one by one as the afternoon progressed. We had one hickup when Ceri provoked a face off (and another flying tackle from Tegyd), so Ceri had to go back to boarsit a miffed Hywel nearby, who felt decidedly left out! None of the other girls picked Tegyd up on her behaviour, so overall things went better than expected.

Tegyd is a dominant girl, who will go quite blustery and aggressive whenever she gets afraid, so I have to go very carefully with her. She also has developing cataracts (not that they seem to impede her much, considering that she is already pretty blind on one eye).

Here is her in one of her dominant moments (video)

Eventually there were all girls in the run without Tegyd freaking out:

And even later on I dared to add some hideys:

Tegyd even made a couple of friends to snuggle up with:

But we will need a few more sessions on the lawn to help her relax around other piggies before we let her loose with Mr Full-on Macho himself! The two have been popcorning together through the bars yesterday morning, so I am hopeful that a second meeting will last longer than half a minute and not end up in a fight all that quickly!

that looked like a fairly friendly bit of chasing there . Fingers crossed they work it out.

You have beutiful pigs and garden btw!

gorgeous photos! I love seeing pics of your tribe - couldn't see my little fave from your last photos (and now I can't remember her name either which is going to annoy me!)

Ooooo looks like its going well so far, only a few moments of chasing! :) hope they keep up the good friendship work will keep my fingers crossed for you and the tribe!

(And you have a gorgeous garden too!)

The video clip was after a few girls and when she had started to calm down somewhat and most munch peacefully with the other girls.

Tegyd has been with me for two weeks now, but she needed the time to settle down in her new home and get used to so many piggies swirling around her. But time is not an issue.

It’s worth taking time with these things to ensure success. The last think you want it to upset the new piggy or even worse upset the equilibrium of your existing group.
It's so nice to see them come out of their shell when they finally get bonded though isn't it?

My Casper had always been on his own before I adopted him a few weeks back and it's so lovely to see him develop his social side. It took quite a while for my girls to accept him though... luckily he is a bit of a wimp so he's happy to be bossed around by the ladies... :)

<O:p</O:pLooking forward to hearing how you get on with your intros.<O:p</O:p

Aww pleased to hear this Wiebke! Lovely video of them all munching on the yummy grass! Oh, and your garden looks beautiful!

Hywel is as dominant as they come - he managed to bully every single boy he'd been introduced to by his former owner as well as at the rescue; that is why I decided on him when my previous patriarch died earlier this year. He's definitely up to boss eleven girls around!

So far, I have been very careful in only rehoming sows with a suitable background/character disposition in order to build up a working group. But Tegyd had been in rescue for over half a year, had lost her (very submissive) neutered boar mate and was not likely to find a new home with her cataracts, so I decided to give her a chance. I have two more sows with congenital cataracts in my Tribe.

I hope the bond goes well - having met Bette I know how some dominate sows can be - Oh the joys!

Good Luck Wiebke, everything crossed! x

Am so watching this with interest to get pointers for Terk. You have a lovely garden. Pleased things seem to be progressing.

Good on you for taking her on. I wish you all the best with the bonding x

Well whee think that wasn't too bad a session Wiebke!
I know how slowly you've been taking this..........your experience in bonding has really been tested (by Miss Tegyd rolleyes) but seems you're taking more paw steps forward than backwards :) x)
all paws, claws and fingers crossed for the day that the two OTT pigsonalities meet once again! Master (ruler of de Tribe) Hywell and Miss Tegyd (de newbie) x)

Lovely to see the bonding going well Wiebke. Hope it keeps on progessing. You have a beautiful garden!

Thanks - I have designed it myself; unfortunately before I went seriously piggy again, so the lawn is quite small!

Glad the bonding is going well, lovely pictures of your girlies!

Aww that a wonderful video and pics. I am so pleased that things are improving and shall keep everything crossed that it will continue :)

I don't know how you do it. I'd have no finger nails left by now! :))

What beautiful photos and I hope the bonding continues to go well..

I am SOOO GLAD that you posted this because I have a feeling I will be facing this all too soon.

I think you are one awesome (and brave) piggie owner. Someday I hope to be as skilled as you are in piggie bonding/owning.

It is a learning curve like everything else - you will always be confronted by new situations and you learn from things that go wrong.
