Terrible Morning

I use Burgess Blackcurrant & Oregano pellets, I whizz them in a coffee grinder (Not used for coffee) & they eat that happily, whereas one of mine hated Critical Care & another one hated the other syringe food. Emeraid is fab stuff, much higher calorie, they love it & you only need to do about half the normal CC feeds as a result. It is pretty expensive though, it cost me about £25 for 3 days worth :)

Just to say, Potassium Citrate works by clumping the calcium together so he will need regular ultrasounds to check where the stone is going; it is far easier to remove a bladder stone in a male than if it travels down his ureter x

Those are the nuggets that my pigs have anyway- I love the smell of them and they don't seem to care about what they taste like!
I think I might get some Emeraid to use over the weekend to get him going- he's never been a big pig but he looks horrible at the moment.

As you can see- it was easy to mistake the two! Although looking at this pic maybe they just didn't SEE Benji.
Benjis shaved patch is huge- it's like they did it so I would know they'd definitely scanned him.

Well the saga continues. Benji was rushed to the vets this morning when his urine output dropped to nothing.
I've managed to keep his weight stable but he's nowhere near his previous weight and well below the target we were trying to reach before surgery, but that's what it's come down to.
I was offered the choice of surgery or euthanasia, but there was no choice at all, he's otherwise fit and healthy, and although he's not eating much of his own volition, he's greedily gobbling down whatever I present to him in a syringe (and as much cucumber as he can get hold of!) so I have to give him a chance.
He'll be going into surgery shortly so it's all body parts crossed that it goes well.

On the plus side, they double and triple and cross checked his description and put on the consent form that Rodney was with him (with the description BIG RED next to his name- poor Rodders) so there shouldn't be a mix up this time!

Good luck Benji! I wouldn't have hesitated to go for the surgery route either. Once that stone is out then he'll hopefully be back to himself soon. My avatar pig had two bladder stone surgeries, one when he was 5 and he recovered fine.

Benji is awake after his surgery but it's going to be touch and go for a few days. The stone was more than 5mm and had stuck to the bladder wall, causing scarring and inflammation which made closing the bladder very difficult.
As long as the closure holds during the first few days of healing we should be alright, but I'll know more in the morning.
Everything crossed here at the moment :(

Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for Benji! He's got a lot of people rooting for him!

Crumbs! What an horrendous time you're all having :(

Everything here crossed for Benji too.
Wishing him a full &speedy recovery.

Luv the girls &I. Xx

Just seen this. Poor Benji. Hope he's had a comfortable night.

Such good news that's it's out. He might be a bit uncomfortable for a while. He'll get Metacam to help the pain. I've had to use Tramadol in conjuction when a pig has had a tough surgery.

Hope he's feeling better today x

I missed this before. Fingers very firmly crossed for Benji to have a smooth recovery. Huge hugs, you've both been through so much.

Guess who's home! :yahoo:

The stone was a little bigger than a pea- I wouldn't have fancied passing it!
He's rather uncomfortable but has eaten a bit of grass and is currently enjoying some cucumber, and done a few very large, blood free pees.
Hopefully the worst is over and I can start sleeping again!
Thank you for all the messages :D

Wow - he looks bright, considering what he's been through poor little man. Let's hope he gets better with each passing day x

Fantastic news. I am so pleased to hear he is at home and recovering quite well. Hope he continues to enjoy his cucumber.

So pleased Benji is doing well. Poor boy that was a big stone for a little piggy.
Hope you can relax now @BertisKing and catch up on some sleep.

He's just done a massive squeak-free pee... granted it was on me, but I'm so pleased he's doing better I don't care, and had his first nibble of hay, so hopefully he'll pick up more over the next few days.
They do like to worry us!

I bet you've never felt happier when you felt that warm, wet patch spreading, haha.

It's good to hear he's feeling better!

Hopefully we've turned a corner and we can put this whole nightmare behind us. Benji's pooping like there's no tomorrow (a bit soft but he's been getting quite a bit of critical care so I guess that's normal), doing the occasional squeaky pee but with his bladder being the mess it now is that's not surprising. He's also taken care of getting probiotics into him by helping himself to Rodneys poops (poor Rodney can't figure out where they keep disappearing to- he turns in little confused circles) and today started eating hay himself. I wish I could see him drink but between the veg and the water I've been syringing and what he must be drinking himself he seems to be getting enough.
I'm so proud of my little man!

I am going to have to do some serious reviewing of their diet as that makes 3 pigs with stones that have popped up in the last couple of months. I might end up with a mutiny when the kale vanishes...

Sending him continued love and vibes. You are a great mum.
