Anyone else finding odd bugs in there Tesco veggies?

A few months back I had the lovely surprise of finding lots of tiny furry grey bugs in my Tesco Market Value broccoli. It was quite litterally crawling in them...Gross! (And all I got was the 70p back!)
2 weeks running now I've found small thin worms in my celery! Last week I cut into it, we'd already eaten half of it:)>>> Then this morning when i went to feed my piggies I saw another worm crawling on the outside, and one inside when I pulled it open, as well as quite a bit of their poo. Double:)>>> !

I'm defiantly taking photos of that one! grrrr

:)>>>
I've never had a problem with their veg but that sounds awful. Hope you kicked off about it. This company makes £350 billion profit per year :{
I find Asda are ok and have quite a varied selection.

Ive always noticed thier veg at mine has mould and bites and looks old. I have to buy the more expensive stuff but that goes towards our food and the animals as well

You'll want to report that to them along with a photo, or go in and show a manager. That isn't at all acceptable by Tesco.

All stores are different, our local in town is pretty decent, some of it seems lifeless but I've never experienced bugs in any of the stuff we get.

I agree with lilmisscavy, report back to tesco with it. I've had a few problems too but I always complain:))

I don't mind a bit of wildlife in my veg, it shows that it hasn't been drowned in pesticides ( which disrupt your endocrine system - not something anyone wants to have problems with, trust me ). I do however object to wilted and stale veg and if you buy some from any supermarket you should take it back and get a replacement/refund ( same goes for celery so full of insects that it's inedible btw ) - I don't know what Tesco are like on this because I've stopped going in there ( sick and tired of the surly attitude from shelf stackers and customer services if I have a query ) but Sainsburys will always do a swap/refund no questions asked, no silly form to fill in etc.

I found a bug in my bag of watercress, rocket and spinach mix last week from Tesco, still alive happily munching on it! I'm not sure what it was looked like a tiny grasshopper or cricket.

years ago( about 12) i had an exotic spider come out of bananas i got in tesco, it was alive, and when our then cat approached it, it threw its front legs up as if to strike, it was nt huge, about the sisze of a two piece penny, but it had jointed legs like a crab, it was horrible, but they insisted it could nt have come out of the bananas!

Last week I found a slug in a lettuce! I screamed and threw it on the floor. :(

I work for a company contracted with Tesco and their staff are the worst I've ever met in my life :{

I once got Organic lettuce from Asda and it had loads of bugs in and was really muddy, never had the problem with non organic stuff!

Rofl! You mean like homegrown, mine get mud on them....this would be because they've just come out of the ground I expect....;)
I have found bugs in our homegrown stuff too...that must be because I grow organically and don't douse everything in harmful chemicals....:))
Please tell me you were being ironic BellasMummy! ;) :) :)

:)>>> this thread has made me feel itchy! :)):))

I'll be checking a little better from now on as we shop in Tesco!

I was going to say about the pesticides too! I try to buy organic when I can, so I see more insects than I did with the non organic stuff. I'd much rather that than all the dodgy pesticides though.

Lol! I actually wasn't :red I still think the lettuce should be clean, even if they don't use chemicals to do it. I have never seen so many caterpillars, its lucky it was for the pigs as it put me right off! :))

I work for tesco! *avoids flying object* and i must say, I may be a shelf stacker but i'm no surly saturday girl! (and we're not all horrible!) I always try my best to be polite even if a customer is:
A) drunk B) incredibly rude C) dressed in a were-wolf costume. i've seen and dealt with it all. :p

But in terms of the veg, it's sainsuburys all the way for me, better quality and you seem to get more for your money.

I'm sure there are some lovely Tesco employees out there ( you of course ), unfortunately the ones I have the misfortune to approach with a query always seem to be in a seriously truculent mood! :...

It's better if you rely on washing it yourself - the less it's been handled, the less likely it is to have loads of nasty viruses on it and you'll always do a better job yourself. :)

And just remember all of those yucky caterpillars will one day turn into beautiful fluttery butterflies ( assuming you don't flush them away, lol! )...think of biodiversity! :(|)

that's really poor for a supermarket with such a high profile image.
I don't have a tesco in my town, apart from the mini ones so it's asda all the way for me, i find their stuff lasts quite a while too. :)

If nothing else this makes me want to grow more of my own!

Read in the papers today that Tesco are going to slash the cost of shopping in half - so there stuff will then come down to about the same prices as the other supermarkets lol !
I did once bite into a rowntrees munchie and found a maggot wiggling about in it-:)>>> wrote and complained and they said it was from "a products storage moth" and sent me a check for £1-50 - should have sent it in to the sun "

AndreaJane- I can appreciate there are some out there with a real attitude problem and they can unfortunatley create a really bad impression (our store has over 400 members of staff and there are a few odd-balls thrown into the mix!) but don't let it put you off!

My friend/colleague had to mop wee up off the floor once after a customer had an accident outside the bakery. No complaining, he just got on with it. Now thats a real dedicated member of staff! ;)

p.s it splashed on his socks too! :)>>>

I now have an image in my head of a moth wearing a white coat, wellies and hair net carrying a clipboard and sporting a badge that reads " product storage specialist". :))

It was pretty bad and he is such a nice guy. He didn't deserve wee soaked-socks! :))

Aldi veg is quality.....the veg growers offer their stock to M&S first and then to Aldi before Tesco, Asda or JS.

And at 49p for most of it, its a bargain!

If I'm not near an Aldi then I agree Sainsburys veg is fab

I couldnt afford to keep as many piggies as I do if it wasnt for Aldi good price and good quality !:))

Theyre really good arent they?

I also like all the different things they have in their store. Their continental cheeses are also really cheap!
