Hi all

Just heads up to those who used Tesco's Ashback still water for their piggies. It was discontinued and replaced with British still water, BUT the you have to check each bottle for calcium content as some bottles will have it as 17mg/l and others 36mg/l. I have found 2l bottles saying 36mg/l and 5l bottles saying either 17 or 36mg/l. I suggest checking every single bottle you buy.
I reached out to Tesco and they came back saying it's a dual source product.
I use bottled water due to having very hard water and filters being so expensive. We even tried under sink filter and it only lasted half the expected lifespan, so do not want to risk it. I switch between Volvic and Tesco's. Whatever is easier to get. But Tesco's 5l Ashback was so much easier and cheaper for peace of mind.

I had reply from TESCO few days ago. Noticed they pulled the 5l bottles with 36mg/l down from my shop the next day after I reported it. But it seems like we'll have to check each bottle separately or stick to Volvic. Unless anyone else has an alternative?

Reply from TESCO:
We've received a reply from our Technical Manager. They've advised: The product is dual sourced and this is the correct mineral content from this source. This should be showing online under two sources, like a multipack does. . . They are going to investigate to ensure this information is correct on the website and app..

Once again thank you for bringing this to my attention I also messaged them saying how serious it was as members of my family have to have a low calcium diet and how serious this was. They were extremely apologetic and I'm waiting for a further reply as they investigate further. 💦

I've seen some Reddit posts saying there are changes with some companies so that might have something to do with the supply. But also seen review on Tesco's website saying the water isn't as good when used in kettle. Which makes me worry it does have higher calcium content so causes build up.

I am genuinely quite worried especially as if I hadn't come across this post I would have continued to use it as I had checked the information online when they changed and it stated it was the same levels as their previous one 😔

I had got some to try but not used yet. I was thinking of switching from the filter jug as it takes so long to filter enough for 9 piggies and the filters are getting very expensive. Think I'll stick to the filters!

Volvic is even lower in calcium an can be bought in offer. Our filters were so expensive that Volvic is still cheaper option. Makes me giggle as one of my girls dips her feet in her water bowl... She has shallow water bowl for her 'feet soup'. So she's literally bathing in bottled water whilst I drink tap water!

Volvic ordered on the next Sainsbury's order fingers crossed they accept it. Don't like the idea of all those plastic bottles for recycling but it is what it is, the tap water here is disgusting, if it's not filtered it takes the skin off the inside of my mouth.

I get it from Sainsbury's, too. Usually wait until it's like 80p for the 1.5l bottles. But that's why I liked the 5l Ashback. Big bottle and low price... I just accepted will either produce plastic bottles or plastic filters. No way around it.
