Tessies sore is pretty nasty today. It's fresh and raw whereas before it was dark red and old looking.

The vet has said she has a nasty skin infection deep in the skin as she was wounded and left. She's on septrin. someone else has suggested it could be selnick mites. I know it is okay to use ivomec with her nursing but can I use it in conjunction with the antibiotics? I am thinking if she's been biting this the reason itwas so dark red and old looking before was because she was so big being pregnant she couldn't reach it. Now she can reach it and it biting it again.

I am off to the vet tomorrow with Wilf the little fluffy boy so I can ask then but thought someone here may know.

On the plus side her milk seems to really be flowing now and every baby except one is over 80g :)

Ooooo :( Looks painful, poor thing. I have no advice Lisa (sorry!) but want to wish her well on the vets trip. Great news about the bubs putting on weight too!

Ouch, poor girl! I'm not sure what to suggest to be honest, I don't know whether putting an ointment (Aloe Vera / Bepanthen / Camrosa) would make things worse as it would sting despite its aim being to soothe.

Not sure if ivermectin and antibiotics are safe to give together, mites are a possibility but this soreness is something I've seen (online only) quite a few times with post-partum sows.

Hope things improve for her. xx

Aww the poor girl, hope she feels better soon xx
My vet prescribed anti biotics for Gerty when we first got her for a scratch wound she had, he treated her with xeno at the same time & she was fine - I'd check with your vet though to be on the safe side xx

Just to say Septrin and Ivomec are okay to have together as per my vet.

Just to confirm is there anything I can put on it that's safe around the babies- it's ever so raw and sore looking. It looks clean and not infected but I think she's opening / licking / biting it all the time.

why not use camrosa this work brill on bobby and with in a few days his hair was regrowning and he has now been rehomed with a friend and a full back of hair x

I'm not sure it's okay for babies - they snuggle into mum all the time. I just don'twant them to have a reaction or be affected by it.

I'd guess that aloe vera gel would be ok with the babies. I don't know for sure though, maybe ask your vet to be sure?

When my old pig had mites the vet gave her a steroid injection I think, to stop the itching because she kept chewing (aswell as her mite treatment), but not sure if that would be safe with babies, probably not.

Aloe Vera should be fine Lisa - I used it on Tiny when she had cut herself from scratching when she was 2 weeks old (I checked with vet & Gorgeous Guineas) xx

You could use vetwrap to make her a little jacket so she cant bent to chew it. Just wrap it round the upper part of her body and shoulders to keep her spine from moving. My sister did this for one of her degus which kept chewing its tail. It worked fine and the degu could still move freely around the cage.

It sticks to its self not the piggy but can get quite tight so you have to check as you put it on. A few wraps round and it will be quite rigid and she won't be able to make the wound worse.
