I found a pregnant texel at the local pet shop, does that mean her babies for the most part will be a texel? I would like to have one, what sort of care do they require other than their hair?

Texels take a lot of grooming we have a young texel girl here and I am brushing twice a day at the moment as their hair starts getting long it can get matted very quickly. Once it gets longer it becomes a bit easier to manage but the growing out bit is a nightmare!
Whether her babies will be texel depends on the father and his coat type.
Other than their hair they are like any other guinea pig but their coats do require a lot of work the curly long haiors are the most difficult in my opinion.

I live in upstate NY, I am not sure where to find a rescue piggie. I would love to get a rescue piggie, I need to get Albert a mate and ideally would like to find a male texel.

Although this forum is very pro rescue it is not against where you get a piggie from. If you would like a baby from this texel go for it O0.

I would def look into Rescues before going to a pet shop. If you cannot find a rescue.. [Sometimes they are hidden] .. then I would get a little baby because I think they would be better to bond.. Well I think thats what I read. I hope you do find a friend for little albert soon.

I've got several Texels / Merinos - 6 in all, and they are very time consuming with the grooming as their hair is not just long, it's curly ... you can brush them thoroughly, and literally the next minute they look like they've been out partying all night.... I love them, but they're not the easiest pigs to keep maintained! I also find they are more prone to ear wax build up and scurfy skin than any of my other pigs. But they are beautiful - just be prepared for constant grooming! :smitten:

i am hoping to get a texel as merlins friend once he is neutered. i love fuzzy pigs and have always wanted a texel, and i am meticulously grooming merlins hair, so i wouldnt mind caring for a texels hair

i really wanted a rex, a teddy, and a texel. i already have a rex. ill be getting a teddy once ive gotten a job lined up, next i just want the texel then ill be happy

i would rescue one though when i got one

This is the first time that I have seen a texel in person, normally I only see the peruvians, abys and short hairs, so now that I have seen one, I want one! I have an aby, an american and a crested right now. What kind of personality do texels have? My aby is the most mischievous, climbing the stairs and alL!

I would love a texel, hope you manage to find albert a friend :)

I found a US based forum, but it is not as organized, set up wise, as this one. They suggested petfinder.com, but I have nto found any piggies near me. I hope that I can find a male texel, I would also like another peruvian,

angel - guineapigcages, guinealynx and guineapighome are all american based pro-rescue sites w/ forums.
