And thank god for this forum!

I cam home from work on Thursday of last week to find that we had had a power outage! On this day the temperature was in the 90's. By the alarm clocks time I could tell that the power had been out for about 3 and a half hours! It was sweltering inside. I ran inside. My two cats were sprawled panting on the kitchen floor and the piggies we all laying in a circle in the middle of the cage! I was so scared! I opened the cage and grab each of them out bringing them into the bathtub. I ran some cool water to put on their feet and fanned them with news paper. Everyone was walking around and ok but seemed very tired. I drained the tub and brought them some wet veg. I then got everyone back into the cage and began to panic again. The power was still out. No fan or AC, what was I going to do? Then I remembered a thread I read on hear about summertime care. I ran to the freezer and grabbed bags of frozen veggies scattering them around the cage as well as ice packs in old socks. All of the pigs cuddled up to their own cool pack while I got the cats some cold water and let them onto the shaded porch until the power can on and hour later.

I am so glad everyone is ok!

Thank you again for all of the knowledge and experience you all share on here everyday! it really helps all of us piggy parents and our little guys!

Oh, no. I imagine that was very stressful for you as well.
I'm glad they're all ok. There's definitely some very knowledgeable people and posts on this forum

Really pleased your piggies are ok.this is a very friendly forum and lots of threads with useful information.always good to hear this forum has prevented near miss.

I am just so thankful that I have been reading through all sorts of threads here even when I don't think that they would apply to us! I would have never thought of the water bottles without reading it here first and it would have taken precious time to search for what to do right then. I have now been making it a practice to leave the frozen bottles on hot days just incase this happens again.

I'm so glad they were OK, made me laugh that you ignored the suffering cats to get 2 your piggies. You should have put the kitty's in the bath too.
:yahoo:

lol, they were ok just hot.... they jumped right up and followed me all around when I got there. They can get to a cooler room or lay on tile. They can sweat and pant but the piggys can't. I was worried about the little ones and then got right to the cats.

That sounds like a harrowing experience. I am so glad you were in tune with what to do and that everyone was ok. I think i'd have been too busy panicking!

I work in health care I think it has really helped prep me for emergencies in general. I am usually the one barking orders when people are panicking.
