After much soul searching.

We have decided to close Rabbit and Guinea Pig Welfare from the 1st January 2014.

I have run this rescue, for the most part with only my family as support although that has changed slightly over the last few years, and for that I am extremely grateful to Jeannette, Rachael, Pete, Joely and Rosie.

We took over the rescue from Julie Fox back in September 2000. At the time we were the only independent rabbit and guinea pig rescue in Warwickshire. We believe that in the last 13.5 years we have helped over 1500 animals. This has taken its toll, on family life, resources, health and finances although I made the decision many years ago that the rescue had to be self funding, It’s still been very hard at times to fundraise enough to keep our heads above water.

The guinea pigs dumped on our doorstep last year, that then gave birth and meant we went through all of last winter with many more animals in our care then we could really cope with, was in some ways the straw that broke the camel’s back. While we were very grateful to the people that helped with fostering, donating and fundraising at the start of that period. But we were then more or less left to deal with the mess on our own and while I except that rescues do that regularly it was a situation that we hadn’t ever found ourselves in before.

I also feel that, the support for small animal rescues is waning, which in its self has a knock on effect. Many years down the road and we’re still waiting for the government to do something about the amount of rabbits and guineas being breed in this country and being churned out by big pet supermarkets. Little has changed regarding accommodation size, exercise areas etc and yet small rescues are frowned upon if they don’t or can’t do homechecks to insure that the animals in their care are going to good places. I believe that it is indeed needed. But it would be much easier if something was set in stone for everyone to sing from the same song sheet.

So in short I’m tired of the fight and have decided to step down from my charger. I would like to thank the forums we are members of for their support and fundraising skills over the years and of course all the wonderful people who have given one or more of our animals a loving new home. Our homecheckers who have helped get them in to those homes and in some cases the amazing people who have gone above and beyond in help to transport them.

Finally my amazing family who have had to put up with so much over the years. Little did they think when they said we’ll support you in whatever you want to do and it’s better to try than not did they know what they were letting themselves in for.

I will still be around and the boarding bonding services will still be here as will foodstuffs, help and advice. Although on a purely appointment only basis now.

Happy 2014 to you all.

What sad news though I completely understand. Thank you for all you have done and for allowing us to adopt the lovely Sophie, Tim is very much in love with his wifepig.

Aww that is such a shame but well done for all the good jobs you have done regarding guinea pigs and rabbit welfare and taking in all those poor abandoned animals.

Have a good new years.

Such sad news for the Guinea Pig Community. You have always ran an amazing rescue that is held in extreme hgh regard as one of the best. Sorry to see you go.
Thank you for everything you have done for all animals in your care, I have never had dealings with you directly but know many of our members thought you were fantastic.

All the best, hope you drop in from time to time. X

I am very sorry that you have decided to finally take the step; I know that you have been struggling especially for the last year. All the many boars that would otherwise have struggled to find a companion will thank you for hanging on for so long! You will leave a large gap in the rescue community, as you have filled an important niche over a long time.

Terfel, Hafren, Nesta and I are wishing you all the best!

You have made such a difference to the lives of so many piggies and buns, and although I am very sad to see that your wonderful rescue will be closing, I fully understand your reasons, and know it wouldn't have been an easy decision. Thanks to you, I have had the joy of being able to offer a forever home to some very special piggies. Pickle, who came here to be a wife for Archie, and gave him the will to carry on when he was ready to give up after losing his friend. Crème Fraiche who has been a wonderful friend to Popsi, when he failed to get on with any other boars, but has loved having a lady friend, and Hornpipe who adores his best mate Eddie! Buddy has a very special job here at the Sanctuary, as he takes care of the three lethal girls, Mabel, Edith and Florence.

Tracy, you are an amazing lady and the work you've done is awesome! Sending much love and huge thanks to you and your family! Have a wonderful 2014!

Love Debbie and all the furry gang here at TEAS x

What a shame but only you guys whom run these brilliant places really knows how hard it is to run the rescues.

Good luck for the future x

I am so sorry to hear this. Though I've never had the pleasure of adopting a piggy from you, I know that you have made such a difference to the lives of so many animals. Good luck with whatever comes in the future

~ Amy

You have done a brilliant job over the years and made a big difference to many furry and human lives.Thank you on behalf of all the duties you have helPed

A huge loss to the rescue community. Thank you so much for everything you have done to help so many pigs and buns. All the best for the future.

Thank you so much for all the work you've done. The toll of running a small animal rescue should never be underestimated and I feel your frustration at the lack of progress on small animal welfare.

Go forward with your head held high knowing many, many pigs and rabbits are now living amazingly blessed, happy lives because of the work you did. You have nothing to apologise for.

Thanks again and enjoy your well deserved rest. I will be sorry not to be lighting the lights of your Christmas Tree in memory of loved ones left again this year.

Dear Tracy
I am so sorry to read that you are closing,I know how hard it is to look after only 7 wiggies, especially the vet bills and can only imagine what it cost you in time ,effort and energy, not to mention the expense- my two wonderful girlies honey and bea came from you 2 years ago this Sunday coming ,after a lady who lived in France came to home check me ! (she used to live locally and was visiting her mother for new year - she also knew my vet well) - and have made my boar Bumble very happy.
Wishing you and your family all the best for the future. xx
