I joined the forum about a year ago when I got my girls. They had some health problems and this was the first forum that came up when I searched “guineapig forum”. I’m really glad a found this forum. It’s so nice to talk to other people just as passionate about guineapigs as me. I here a a lot of people talk about guineapigs like they are not as worthy as pets as and cats and dogs. Like they are for kids or pets you don’t take to the vet. It breaks my heart when people think like this. Guineapigs are the best little fluff balls. I wish more people loved and understood piggies as much as everyone in here. Thanks for people awesome everyone!

Does anyone else have experiences with people not understanding or appreciating guineapig care?
 
We are glad you googled us :) And glad the forum could help. We found the forum too when one of our first girls were poorly.

Some of my (non piggy) friends don't understand but most understand that even though they are not animal lovers themselves they know that pets are an important part of my life and so have been kind and caring when i have lost piggies in the past - despite them not 'getting the pet owning thing themselves.
Unfortunately you are always going to encounter people who think you are weird (for loving pets as we all do on here)

The thing that perplexes me the most is dog and cat owners who are quite 'it's only a guinea pig' with their attitude.... I would expect pet ownders to understand the bond possible between all species

Yes! That’s the attitude I feel a lot of people have. That somehow because they are small they are not as important or equal as pets. There just like really small rodent puppy dogs lol. There loving and have their own unique personalities. Luckily most of my close friends and family get it but I definitely get some of the “their just guineapigs”. Another one is shock of how much you can spend on “just a guineapig” at the vet.
 
Most people don't realise every guinea pig has it's own character. I have noticed people who have met mine change their attitude a little bit once they meet them. There a very few people I would tell how much I spent at the vets in October, one person who does know says I am mad I could have had the bathroom sorted out for that much! I don't think my retort that a new bathroom wouldn't give me as much pleasure as my guinea pigs went down very well!
 
It’s great to be with like minded people on the forum who understand our love for piggies. It’s always good to hear that members feel at home here.
 
They are definitely an overlooked choice for a pet. Ive always wanted guinea pigs but of course never allowed one - till now! So excited and looking for my adopted boys friend to be so that he has company. I'm over the moon with Jerry and love him to bits. I have 3 dogs and Jerry is very like a shy puppy :luv:

Sorry to disappoint luv, but I have 3 sons, an OH and a completely useless individual who just happens to be my brother why would I want another man in my life? You know I think of you as a dear friend, but I don't really want to adopt you!

The youngest mum I had in a nursery I worked in once was 13.... her daughter came to nursery while she went to school......
