Because of your post about your pig possibly having some kind of lice or mites I have reconsidered what's going on with my Piglet. He also has little wounds on his rump (that I have been cleaning) which I thought were bite marks. But it didn't make a lot of sense because he lives with Roger and they get along fine, and he is separated from George who he does fight with. So I'm gonna take a flash light and see if I can see any little bugs. The only thing that confuses me is that the other two pigs don't have the marks. If it was a parasite wouldn't they also have them? Also he has a history of ringworm, would that also be a possibility? Opinions please :)

Hi :)

If your little one has wounds on his back then it could be mites, which you cant always see! is the hair thinning around the back end at all?

My Mdluli had a bit of thinning hair, so I took her to the vets, the vet found loads of bite marks on her back and on inspection another of my piggys Sophie had thinning hair on her tummy! It was diagnosed as mites and all three of my girls were treated, but Nala NEVER showed any sign of mites at all (the three live together). All three are well recovered now and their hair is growing back!

Maybe it might be worth a little trip to the vets jut to rule out mites, mange mites live under the skin so you wont be able to see them mallethead

I hope that helps

Mange mites are not visible to the naked eye. They typically appear as triangle of thinning hair on the back accompanied by lots of itching. You always need to treat all piggies in one group for parasites to prevent a transfer. If in doubt, have your piggies checked by a vet.

I just wanted to ask a quick question relating to mites. A lot of posts I have read relate to signs of mite infestation are hair loss and wounds on the back. Is this location always the case?
I have just noticed that one of my girls has lost hair on her front, and under her armpits and I has a few sore patches. Could this still be mites? I am taking her to the vet later I was just wondering if anyone knew what it might be?
Thanks
