Thought of this after reading @Squeakz rat thread and the bit about relatives (ta :)!)

A family member wants me to stay with them for a few nights over Christmas and I'd rather chew my own arm off... don't get me wrong, I love them dearly but the thought of being in close confines for daaaaays is not for me, said relative gets mightily offended if I refuse. This happens every year, and I've never had the best luck with getting my excuses in early (except one year I actually ran a 5 mile charity race on Boxing Day to avoid the whole palaver - I'm NOT doing that again though!). However, the invite has already come, and I've said I can't because of my piggies (well, I could, but don't want to; said relative doesn't know of piggie boarding etc), so just want to shout out to my pigs for being the cutest, furriest excuse a gal could have :))

Anyone else found their pigs a neat way of getting out of stuff? :)

Me too ! I've just moved to Berkshire From Bournemouth and my relatives are like drive down for xmas day ... erm no actually why can't anyone make the effort to see my new house :mal: but I said sorry I can't leave the animals on their own for too long as they'll get stressed if they are out of a feeding routine :tu::)) Thanks boys !

I even looked into taking small animals on flights to see if it was financially viable to BRING with when forced to visit family, unfortunately even a small animal in the aircraft is not free unless its a service animal. And there is a limit to how many pets although I am not sure if this is overwritten if more than one pet is in a transport box. Well.. our pets are family too!

It certainly makes things easier than saying "I really don't enjoy your company for any extended period of time but I can't get out of this without offending you", plus the piggles are so cute, no-one can be mad at them for 'their' special needs (um, 'my' handy excuse!) :))

I just say I'm working that solves the issue, usually i do work christmas and i thoroughly enjoy it ,but ive used the got to get home to feed my pets.:)

When I go traveling my partner is at home to look after the piggies but when I was selling my house 200 miles away, we would put the cage in the boot and go up for the weekend. I used to take the day off work to dog sit for my mother sometimes...a guy at work would be too embarrassed to tell us that was what he was doing as well until I was quite open about family pet needs! This guy's family dog once burrowed it's way through the sofa!

Yup I'd not go away on weekends to the beach house with the in laws cause of the boys then the girls. Great excuse eh

Went on one holiday when I just had Duke only he was babysat by my folks. But it was stressful and I called all the time ;)
