I had a call from the vet today, just after an update on how Maggie is doing...he seemed really pleased with her progress and doesn't want to see her again!

So...Manky Maggie with her mysterious illness would like to thank...

Suzy for her constant support

Pebble for her advice and being on the end of the phone late at night(!)

Everyone who sent her well wishes, healing vibes and general hugs!

And finally.....her insurance company!

So...THANK YOU! x>>

And what an absolutely gorgeous picture of her. So pleased the news is good.

Well I'd like to thank you Amanda - not only for giving a sad little pig a new lease of life but also going above and beyond (with the help of the insurance) in never giving up, and kicking that mystery illness up the backside long and hard til it's gone.

x

Scrap that Suzy! We're off to Swindon again I think... She's struggling to breathe again this morning! 8...:...

Just called them; the vet she's been seeing (the big cheese vet!) is on holiday, so she's going to have to see one of his juniors...I have no choice though...they're the only people with an endoscope small enough to see what's going on!

Ugggh pig!

He can feel...something....to the left of her neck area...under the muscle...whether its an abscess or an enlarged lymph node he doesn't know.

We need to treat her bloating first, and give her a break from antibiotics, so Zantac, subcut fluids and metacam. Nothing for the breathing side of things yet; he's suggesting surgical removal of whatever this thing is, but doesn't want to GA her until the bloating is sorted. As for what's caused the bloating....no idea!

Or at least that's what I think he said...I can't really understand!

Any update on maggie?

Sorry, went to the vets, came home (may or may not have fallen asleep for an hour or so!) then went to work. Just got in zzz

The vet I saw today (usual one is on holiday) seemed to be saying the right things but seem fixated with this lump that he found and couldn't tell me why, if that's responsible, how/why it's affecting her breathing.

But anyway, because of the bloating, couldn't do anything today. Gave me the option of treat just the bloat (no ABs for the lump/breathing) and see how she goes and then decide what to do, or take the risk of surgery to excise this lump and take it from there.

Given her history of bloating and gut stasis post GA, and her already bloatyness, I opted for the former - she's eating (she's 1.24kg today, the biggest she's ever been!), she's happy, she's not suffering or anything and I'm capable of, and happy to manage the bloating at home.

I'm kind of hoping to hold out until the vet that I have been seeing is back from holiday :...

Just got home from work - she's still a bit bloated, but munching away happily!

I wish someone could tell me what is going on with this pig

24 hours after being on the antibiotics (i.e. 1 dose) and she's fine again....

Maggie is testing you - she thinks she would be a good case study / thesis for you - and has been sent to you to look after her, as you know what you are doing - she is telling you you need to be a piggy vet :))

Oh dear sounds like you're going through the mill with Maggie. I do hope you and the vets manage to get to the bottom of the problem and get her to full health. Loads of healing vibes. :laluot_29::laluot_29::laluot_29:

I've put off updating this thread as I didn't want to tempt fate...

But little Maggie Maggot seems absolutely fine! We've had no more snorting, no more snuffling, and no more bloating.

She's back to eating a varied veg filled diet again and seems back to her old self (well, her new self!)

I just gave her some melon - I think it's probably her first taste of fruit. She tentatively sniffed it...licked it a little...then grabbed it and popcorned off across the cage with it in her mouth!

I love this little pig! ^)

So pleased for you and beautiful Maggie x
