I’ve had Beans and Toast for just over two weeks now! They’re still very shy and not coming out much. I’ve just remodelled their home so one side, including food and water is all hidden in like a cave! Hopefully this encourages them to come out more and hopefully one day I can take off this blanket... I wanted to make a thread as they’re growing up.

It worked instantly, I walked into the kitchen to check if they’re eating as they generally only come out at night. I walk into the kitchen, say hello and hear a squeak... so bent down to have a look.

They don’t use the hay rack for eating, apparently! Kicking off this thread with Beans being weird! Shame I can’t attach my video, I was utterly wetting myself with laughter!

You can upload the video to YouTube and then link it here if that's of any use to you? Edit: although it has to be either Public or I think it's Hidden? Private videos can't be shared via url but Hidden ones can.

Today for the very first time, they’re out and about! It took a lot longer than I thought it would for them to settle in enough to want to come out and explore while I’m in the room, rather than just at night - I’m willing to wait as long as they need! I also got my very first “feed me!” Squeaks this morning too. I won’t deny, eyes welled up a little bit there!
Shaky fingers are shaky due to me literally shaking and trying not to spook them - they don’t mind me doing the washing up or cooking but if I want to turn around? Run away!

I have not been doing much, if any, handling with them unless I have to - lifting them out to clean the cage etc. I’ll give them a few more days so they’re at the point of being comfortable to come out at all hours, then I’ll start the handling process! Is it sad I’ve actually bought them a radio? I’m only in the other room, but noticed they only come out if there’s something directly in the room....

Aw, they are gorgeous and settling in well. have a look in the guides, there’s one on handling new and skittish piggies. You will probably find they are fine once on your lap in a snuggly or towel x

I love their names!
My boys names go together too, Smokey and Bacon

No picture today - sorry - but over the last couple of days, both Beans and Toast are getting more confident and beginning to come out more and more, and make it known that they want feeding!

A situation made me worried earlier - I entered the flat earlier through the door and Beans jumped - and ran right into the hay rack and got stuck! By the time I ran over there to help, she'd flipped so she was head down, legs in the air, and by another step she'd forced her way out and gone. I'm assuming she's okay as no squeaks of pain and been out since...is it a good idea to take out the rack for now and feed hay in their...hay hack but they can't get into it that doubles as a house...thing?

Its best to take out anything your piggies might get stuck in, can you get them a hay tray? We have Rosewood rabbit litter corner trays for hay, and some people use a cat litter tray or a plastic storage box with a dipped side... a cardboard box stuffed with hay with a door cut in the side is a temporary solution that piggies like a lot but it will get peed on pretty fast!

I have this hide which is made so that hay can be placed inside, but they can’t get stuck in it! I’ll use that for now as they scared the devil out of me! Never had a guinea pig do that before...

Good job it happened while you were watching, I had a similar thing where Blodwen got spooked by my husband sneezing and darted into a woven grass football toy through the window not the door... had to get busy with the scissors to make all the holes piggy bum size!

They’re a lot more confident and out a lot of the time now!
I just got a job with Pets at Home.. I just have to resist adding a couple of more into my herd! Will I he able to resist? Probably not but we’ll try! There’s one female on her own in the back room as she’s on medication, itching to bring her home once she’s clear!

I do like Pancake and Waffle! Maybe Bagel :P a friend suggested something mysterious but we gotta have another breakfast sounding name! It’s so nice having 3 again, so much more life and it’s been...1 hour
I do like Waffle... hmm. Maybe Poptart but I think that’s a weird one as well!

I adore Muffin oh my goodness I can’t decide! You guys are so fantastic at names!

I’m shocked how easy it was to get them all to bond. I mentioned I worked in a pet shop - this one was about to end up as a single so I thought not a chance and took her home with me! Since they’re similar ages I think that’s why it was so easy. Keeping a close eye on them but no troubles so far!
