Senior Guinea Pig
Fergus Montague has been a single piggy all his life, he's never liked any of the other lifers at the rescue. He's had plenty of piggy neighbours to give him company but he's not allowed anypig to share his cage before.
The most recent lifer to join the others in the piggy room is Pip. He was homed over 18 months ago with his brother but returned to the rescue after losing him and his family were not in a position to home another.
Now that the dating service is on stop over the Christmas break it gave me the chance to see if Fergus and Pip would like each other. I didn't expect it to go well as Fergus is very quick to show his annoyance with other pigs - lots of boy stink and teeth chattering, followed very quickly by biting. So imagine my delight in watching him light up with happiness at meeting Pip, no stink, no teeth chattering, barely even a rumblestrutt and nothing from Pip either - just happy, happy pigs!
30 minutes after meeting.
3 hours later.
After their first night together.
Fergus is 2.5 yrs old, Pip is 3.5 yrs. This now means that all the lifers at the rescue are in bonded pairs, all except Lucy Lollipops who popcorns around her cage every morning in sheer delight at not having anyone in her space (her choice, made very clear each time I try a new piggy).
I'm not sure who has the biggest grin on their face - me or the pigs
