Work starts today on building the new hutch. I didnt think I could bring myself to do it after events earlier this week (Mavis' death), but the rest of the herd, especially the youngsters with their joyful zoomy popcorn antics have had a big part in cheering me up and begining the healing. Ive had a chat with mave down at the primrose patch, and she good with it.
Right, better do put the drill battery on charge.

6 hours or so later...

Spectacular hutch palace. Lucky piggies. And I'm sure Mavis gives her blessing too.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I've said it befor and I'll say it again I admire these people who are able to build these amazing things I'd be their 6 hours later just looking at the pile of wood still ! Beautiful hutch, cute doggie, dose he/she get on with the pigs ?

It looks great, I wouldn't have a clue where to start lol.I'm very sorry for your loss, I was in tears reading your other thread but it's a lovely tribute to Mavis and I'm sure she's looking down on you and really liking this tribute to her xx

It only took about an hour to build, the rest was three coats of cuprinol. Te-di-ous.
Lily poodle watches them for hours. Since we got the zoomy youngsters, she spend all evening with her nose in the bars of thir indoor cage. They go up and sniff her back. Its their little baby noises that attract her. Her chase instinct is strong though so shed never be left near them loose. so c&c long term is a none starter.

Daft dudley on the other hand (chihuahua x shitz szu) likes to try and cuddle tham at lap time!,, cute

lovely tribute to Mavis, some spoilt piggies,i have two of the same hutches ,mine love them, varying degrees to whom uses the ramps!love the colour you have painted them, very pretty.x

I'm only planning to use the upstairs at first. Mahoosive twinkle doesnt move much at the babies are still only 13 weeks or so so 6x 2 still leave planty of room for zoomies. I plan to let them floor time in this area its abot 7ft x 15ft, stone floor, but I can proof it and keep the poodle at bay ! Cage liners to make next and then just to wait for warmer weather

I will miss the being indoors though, but my daughter is becomeing allergic. Shell be off at university by next winter though so they can come back in. Ha ha

just a suggestion,i used bm lino tiles to line the floors it saves and preserves the wood!ive had mine two years now and still look new.love the pigture,do you find fleece works well in hutches that are outside?.x

Yes, I was thinking about lino or even a sheet of correx. They are only in it for a few hours today ( still too cold at night) so still experimenting. Also its not quite outside. Its in a sort of conservatory that has no door, the estate agent called it a "loggia", but then I suppose they would. In any event, it will never get rained on or in. I'm hoping its a perfect piggy place

Well done you. It looks fabulous. Love the colour. And can't wait to see the sign.
