hi What does everyone feed their younger guinea pigs pellet wise? what is the best brand to get, I'm currently feeding the woodlands mint and lavender ones but they don't really seem to like them, preferably a low calcium pellet, thanks :) oh and I'm in the uk

Burgess Excel, Rosewood and JR farm pellets are great. ;) When they are younger low calcium levels are not as important but its good to have them on a low calcium pellet which those 3 are and add a teaspoon of porridge oats into the pellets to make them big and 💪 strong until they are 6 months old. :D

I feed my lot Harrington's nuggets too @sport_billy and Velvet loves them so much she's waiting at the empty food bowl as soon she hears "breakfast time"! I'm sure she'd live on them if I let her!

hi so feeding pellets to guinea pigs is not really needed its alot healthier to feed them natural forage such as grass, cow parsley, and dandelions this helps them have a more natural diet. I suggest feeding root vegetables like carrots to in the colder months. If you really feel the need to feed dry food I recommend Harington's optimum. If you do feed pellets test them first by placing them in water if them break down they are suitable but avoid them is they swell and expand. :yahoo:

I always look for pellets with the highest vitamin c content. Those which I have found to have the highest are the excell range (they love the black current and oregano ones these are also smaller pellets too) there is the mint ones which are a larger pellet and the little one seems to chew these in two or three bites. Excell have around 800mg/Kg of vit C I think, Harrington’s, although loved in the past by my previous guinea pigs, only have about 300mg/Kg. And you only want to feed them around 50g per piggy per day once 6 months old.
