Hi there!
I'm new to this site, but I wanted to share the place where I get my Timothy hay from.. I've had two guinea pigs for 6 years now (thanks to my granddaughter!) :-) and they are part of the family now and I have enjoyed them so much! I finally found the best hay ever at Sierra Valley Hay! They are a family run farm too, so that's pretty cool. I usually get their 3rd cutting timothy hay and my guineas love it! Sierra Valley has all sorts of different hays, so check them out.

My guineas get a big pile of hay in their pen. They have learned not to go potty in it. I have a big area for them outside too, and I'll go to the feed store to get the best timothy hay they have (which is never as good as Sierra Valley) and I'll spread some of it around. They enjoy hiding in it and having fun. I hate to waste my good hay for that. I use a sun shade for the top of their pen outside, so no other critters will get in. I used to have horses for 30 years, but not anymore. So between my guineas, my four dogs, and fish...I stay pretty busy! And I love it that way!
P.S. You should have your guineas teeth checked once and awhile too, by a vet as their teeth continue to grow and if they aren't aligned correctly, it can cause problems. That's why guineas need lots to chew on too.
My guineas get fresh fruit and veggies twice a day, (about a cup each per day) along with timothy pellets and timothy hay....all they can eat. They are fat and sassy and we love them! Our dogs do too!
One more thing...I know people say their pens don't stay smelling good for long. What helps so much is, I use wood pellets first. There's a good brand called American Wood Fibers. You can put your zip code in on their website and find out what stores around you sell them. American Wood Fibers Everyday Products Made From Renewable Resources Wood Shavings and Wood Flour. www.awf.com So I put that down first, then I'll add natural paper bedding to make it softer for them. Not the shaving type bedding as it gets too messy. My indoor pen for them is pretty large...3' x 5', so the whole thing will get the pellets. But I put polar fleece in their huts where they sleep. And every third day, I can replace the polar fleece, or just put another double layer of fleece on top if I don't have a lot of time. They've got some tunnels and things too, and so once a week, I get rubber gloves on and pick up all that's wet and add new. But the wood pellets really help keep it smelling better and they don't have to be replaced often, just the wet parts and they don't go potty everywhere. I know people also have a lot of fleece in their pens instead of what I'm doing, so if that works, that's good too. Just thought I' d add my two cents! Enjoy your little furry fellows!
