I booked Mary and Opal in for general check ups. To check Mary’s entropion eye. And also Opals eye as she had hay poke a few weeks ago but couldn’t get an emergency appointment at the time. I was confident her eye wasn’t damaged so I was able to give her eye jel until she could be seen.
I decided to phone to book Newton in to be seen as well, embarrassingly I said his name was Patrick. So I had to phone back and say.. Err sorry his name is Newton.. Patrick passed away a while back and he must have been on my mind!
Then I decided I didn’t want to leave Olive home on her own so I scooped her into the carry cage before we left too!
Dr Aaron was happy with all their health. Mary looks great and her eye is fine and isn’t blind in it. Newton passed with flying colours too. Opal was all good, he said nothing to worry about with her eye and I did a good job caring for it.
And I’m glad I bought Olive along as I asked if he had time to give her a quick check over, mostly to check her heart murmur. Unfortunately her heart murmur has progressed. Nothing to worry about for now but it will cause issues later on. He said to watch out for her breathing heavy or any change in her behaviour as she will need to go on special heart murmur medication.
He did suggest that it is a good idea to start her on ‘Benazeprill’ 0.02 daily, ongoing to help slow the progression of the murmur (at least that’s what I think it’s for..I’m really bad at taking in information!.. I’ll look it up now!). So we have come home with that to see how she goes. Other than that she’s all good and healthy :)
Such an awesome vet. He also gave me his email as he understands he’s hard to book as he’s the only exotic vet. So if I have an emergency, to email him and he’ll squeeze me in somehow.
I’ll book the other 2 in for health checks soon. Gosh it’s expensive having 6 pigs :)) wouldn’t have it any other way though!

It sounds like you take excellent care of your piggies. They're lucky to have you.
