Yesterday I bought a bag of Asda's new guinea pig nuggets. They are an amazing price - £2 for 2kg - and the nutrition seems pretty good, so I thought it they would be worth a try for the boys (the girls turn their noses up at anything except Burgess Excel with Blackcurrant and Oregano, but I will probably let them have a little try). They are taste-testing it for the first time today, so I'll post their verdict!

I personally wouldn't feed these after reading the label, they are filled with molasses for a start sadly :(

I asked about these before and told from the label no molasses but burgess has or is that the wrong way round? Was thinking of changing mine over

sorry carob meal and Lucerne which is alfalfa both no good long term for piggies. I saw them and looked good till I looked into them. I wouldn't touch them personally.

I've checked the nutritional information and both the Asda and Burgess have 0.8% calcium. If carob meal and lucerne are molasses under another name (or have I misunderstood that?) the Burgess also has molasses and lucerne in. Does that mean I shouldn't be feeding either? Am I between a rock and a hard place? :mal:

I don't feed mine any pellets are they have so many hidden nasties in them. I gave my piggies some as a treat the other day stupidly and now Matthew is wheeking again. Not giving him them again and he's stopped wheeking in pain.

Yes Burgess does have molasses in, and yes I bet you feel like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can't honestly say that there is any concrete evidence out there that I have come across that gives you the perfect diet for piggies, so many have differing opinions, and the manufacturers are always going to promote their own brand to say it is the best diet.

Yes, you're right there. Trying to think about it logically and objectively, the pellets make up such a small proportion of my piggies diet that I wonder if its worth getting myself in a lather about it!

I have been feeding these nuggets mixed with science selective and burgess and all go down well. At the minute I am try to wean all.mine onto same nuggets and they all seem to be enjoying the most expensive science selective which is a downer but they do eat the other two so msy withdraw the supreme lol!
