So just got them out the run and with Captain being black.. after a good check he's covered in lice, I'm hoping to get them to the vet tomorrow but I have a really busy day if not it will have to be weds morning.. arghhh they are both eating well though and both been active in their run today.. guessing Popeye will have them also although we did check him and couldn't see any but he's lighter in colour.. I am SO busy this week its untrue .. have looked at the info is there a video anywhere with info on how to bath them for after I've been to the vets for treatment ? They have hardly been handled and I'm worried that the little trust we have built is just going to be gone.. I am aware this is a neccesity though ..

All the best! If they are very skittish, best bathe them in a bathtub or in a low basin on a floor that can deal with a dunking, in case one of the boys panics and jumps blindly. Please don;t use a sink for that reason!
Here are your tips. We don't have a video. Your vet is likely to prescribe ivermectin, but if the lice are really bad, he might like to take a two-pronged approach with the ivermectin and the shampoo. Please be aware that you cannot use any topical (i.e. on the spot skin treatment) within 48 hours of any other.

We don;t have a video, but here is out guide.

Thank you :) so a washing up bowl will suffice? on the floor in my kitchen? they are outdoor pigs but obviously this will need to be done indoors due to them getting wet and cold? I thought or read on here ivermectin will do nothing for lice? I feel awful as I'd noticed his bald patch and them scratching a bit but I was leaving it a little too see if was just caused by stress of moving.. really hoping I can get them in tomorrow.. I've got the busiest of days though :'(

Well I got them to the vets all went smoothly she gave them spot on there and then xeno ... don't think it upset them too much.. then got a phone call off the vets saying they hadn't given them enough and I need to go back to buy more.. apparently captain needs another 3 and Popeye 2 and then repeated after 10 days? Does this sound right? Sounds like an awful lot x

I had to take my two baby girls to the vet for lice treatment not long after we brought them to live with us. The vet gave one of them two doses and the other three doses. Was told to see how they are in two weeks but he didn't say anything about bathing them. The itching doesn't seem to be quite as bad now but we have another week to go.

Yeah I wasn't asked to bathe them either.. need to go back to the vet this morning and pick up more xeno then try apply it this morning by myself the joys! The vets will charge me again if they do it.. even though they made the balls up x

Are you sure they dont mean they need to give you more for the next treatments? Usually xeno is applied as 1 pippette (of the correct strength for an average 700g-1200g pig) and then the same again every 2 weeks for 6 weeks..

Best to make sure thats clear when you collect them. Hope they are on the mend soon x

I'd already asked that on the phone, they'd given the small ones not the XENO 450 or whatever it's called for the heavier pigs, although technically Captain could have had the 450 as he weighs a kilo Popeye on the other hand can't as he isn't big enough yet.. either way all sorted just got more oney to fork out in 10 days for their second dose :(

sorry to be barer of bad news but instead of all this expense you can just buy a spot on treatment from pets at home and do it yourself worked wonders on my lil guinea :D

We don't recommend the use of spot on treatments on the forum; they tend not to be strong enough to do the job.
