The Coach House 6ft Hutch - Any Good For 2 Piggies?

Hi, we have 2 male piggies Domino and Rufus, approx. 6 months old, currently living indoors but I am looking into moving them outdoors in the spring when the weather improves. I would like them to have as much space as possible so that on wet days when they cannot go on the lawn they still have room to move around. I found the coach house hutch which is a 6ft double storey with trays that pull out for easy cleaning out. Can anyone recommend it?

I've been eyeing it up too - for a pair of rabbits though. In my experience hutches vary wildly in quality, most look great but some are flimsy & don't last very long. I'd like to know before I buy too. I love the lift up top, wish my other hutches had that.

I think you'd probably have to modify the ramp for piggies - it's very steep & I'd add sides to stop them falling off. That'd be easily enough done though.
 
Thanks for your reply. I've been looking around at hutches for ages. Some are appalling quality and I know they will just get wet and rot and will be a nightmare to clean out. It would be great to hear from someone who has the Coach House hutch as it's quite an investment and I don't want to be buying another hutch in a year or two if it's unsuitable.

I don't know about the coach house, but the Chartwell hutches are very good quality, and with covers on last a goos few years. In the summer mine have a 6ft single story. The base is wipe clean and doesn't rot. The wood is strong and good quality. They make different sized hutches and attachable runs so may be worth having a look. They are not cheap but they are the best i have found so far.
 
ive two chartwell six feet hutches that are 4 years old.the covers that you can purchase make a big difference to the wear and tear of the hutch.I would recommend these.i got my from a website called home and roost.i have placed lino on the floor for easy cleaning !
 
I've been looking at the ryedale hutches as suggested by flowerfairy and they do look very good quality. I love that they do 7ft hutches too! I saw their whopping triple decker 7ft hutch and wonder if it can have the ramps removed and closed off to make 3 seperate hutches? I can't tell from the picture but wow! Hutch-20.webp
 
The coach house looks similar to the chartwell. It appears that the back is plywood so unless you have a cover that will not be lasting all that long. The other thing that would put me off is how exposed the downstairs area is. With 3 of the 4 sides being open it is not very sheltered and will take the piggies longer to have the confidence of being down there.

With a previous hutch I has a pull out tray like those but I have to say it was the most pointless invention ever. I could never use it because by the time they have been weeing and pooping and dragging their hay everywhere there was too much in the shallow tray to be able to pull it out and empty it
 
Hi I am still looking for a decent quality outdoor piggy hutch. I wanted to get one from Ryedale, they appear to be excellent quality and the guy is super helpful but sadly he has none available until next month. Does anyone else have a recommendation for a good quality hutch? Many thanks

To be honest I reckon you are looking at a month before it's warm enough to put them outside so I'd go with the Ryedale one if it were me

I took delivery of a 6ft Chartwell and some of the tongue and groove hadn't been put together properly. They sent replacements. Same issue. I'm now going to Ryedale. Not cheap. But you can't compare the quality

Because Rob makes them himself, if you wanted separate floors, I'm confident he'd make it like that for you. Or even add trapdoors to keep your options flexible 👍🏻
 
It’s going to be a while before the weather is warm enough for them to move outside so if you like the Ryedale you could order it and it’d be ready before the weather turns. Alternatively, you could have one made to your specifications - where I live there are a couple of people who make good quality hutches to order. Not sure where you live?

I did notice that and won't be posting anything more. BUT the reason I did post was because when looking into the Ryedale brand I thought where better to look than TGPF for good valid opinions and experiences of these hutches 🤷🏻‍♀️. This thread came up in a forum search and I thought I'll add my bit of input, incase anyone else like me comes along and does a search. Some people, maybe only us newbies, do look back through older articles for help, advice, experiences, because there can be useful knowledge to be gained.

There is no problem adding opinions and further information, there has been no criticism of you. I just didn't want people spending their time trying to advise a member who has hopefully already purchased a hutch and who hasn't logged on in the best part of a year. Sometimes people comment without looking as it comes up on new posts that's all.
