Is it me or can you just "tell" if a guinea pig is female or male...? I swear to god i can tell by some weird vibe they give off that my females are females even if i didnt know them... Its not the size of the male its just some "thing"...

Anyone else think this? Or have i just got too much time on my hands? :)):))

Well judging by the no replies i must have too much time on my hands...

No, I doubt if it's that you have too much time on your hands. I didn't respond to your original post, because I hadn't experienced it for myself. I suspect you just have a terrific rapport with your piggies, and your instinct tells you which they are.

I can't really say I could tell when they were babies, but as George and Alfie have got bigger, I would say they definatley have boyish good looks!:)):)):))

I have two boars and six sows and the boars do seem different in the way they act. The girls are more skittish I think than the boys.:))

I think if often depends on the pigs! My experience of boars (8 in total, two of my own and various little rescues) versus the sows (three!) suggests to me that the boars are more skittish that the sows!

I was recently fostering a mummy pig and her three babies, two boars and a sow, and the baby sow was the bravest little thing ever! Where as the two boars were total mamma's boys and got upset when you scooped mamma out for a cuddle. Tee hee.

I definitely think they tend to behave differently. I find my boys to be more upfront and what you see is what you get type of behaviour. The girls can be very sneaky and sly! A bit like human male and females really! LOL I also think they tend to feel different. My boys seem to have a different type of muscle tone!

I agree there are noticeable differences between the sows and boars. I have six sows and two boars. Only one of my sows will be willingly picked up without a chase the others are very highly strung! Both boars however are easy to pick up and quite happy to have a cuddle.I also think the sows have a feminine look whilst the boars are stockier and rounder If that makes sense. However I agree that the only sure fire way of sexing is to turn them upside down.:)

I must obviously watch them WAAAAAAAAAY more than i should do... :)) Probably why the house cleaning has taken second place to the piggies :red:)
