We are both at a standstill today with the dreaded lurgy. Both of us are off work, Ali with a severe case of man flu and Lisa with a strain of man flu that Ali has chosen to share with her grrrr! We were just wondering sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but can piggies catch man flu from hoomans! We are currently being very careful not to handle or be too near the boys and making sure that we wash our hands etc before topping up the hay etc. We have currently suspended cuddle time with our boys just incase. :(We were just wondering when would it be safe to resume normal activities or are we being over cautious...

I don't know but it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Hope you both feel better soon.

Oh no, hope you both feel better soon!

I read something about this just the other day (I really can't remember where though, sorry!) I think the consensus was that we can't be 100% sure that guinea pigs can't catch our lurgy germs, so it is best to avoid getting too close. Better to be safe than sorry :) x

Aww I am sorry you are feeling poorly. I really hope you feel better soon.x>>

Fortunately or unfortunately the ill hoomans say that they should be well enough to go back to work tomorrow.

Us boys are still getting the cold shoulder no pun intended but we're keeping them on their toes with some extra loud wheeks to make sure the dinner service doesnt slip. ;) Since we're not getting sofa time at the moment with the hoomans we've decided to make sure that when it does start again we've saved up plenty of surprises for them.;) xx

Oh no, poor you! I can't imagine you have a lot of energy to look after your pigs when you have flu, it is SO SO nasty. Luckily, I have only had flu once and had a helpful neighbour that came in as the whole family had it and we all stayed in bed for about a week! We felt as if we were dying, and when we finally re-united with each other (as we were all in bed in seperate rooms) we all looked absolutely shocking with cracked and bleeding lips due to the fact no one had been well enough to get themselves anything to drink for days - it's a wonder we survived! I think we must have had a very nasty dose, as I certainly cannot remember feeding the cat or anything, I do remember nearly collapsing in the shower as I was so weak after a week with no food. Anyway, probably the best thing to do is bung lots of hay and water there for you pigs, make sure you have plenty of fluids at your bedside and wait for good health to return - I am quite amazed you have managed to post anything on the forum tbh - isn't every muscle in your body and head throbbing with pain?

take care - I don't think flu comes around too often for healthy folk - it's 10 years since I had mine and I am keeping everything crossed that you don't send your bugs over the border to me!

Ah - I never saw you are going back to work tomorrow - that explains how you are at the computer, on the mend! You will be glad to have beaten that nasty bug, it's just the worst, takes a few weeks for muscles to stop aching too so take it easy the next wee whilex

Thanks for that.. xx We are both getting there, but everything is taking twice as long. We went for a short walk this afternoon and it felt that it was like running a marathon.. We will see if we are feeling like going to work tomorrow..

I didn't know any of this too: http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091123091200AA3AvY1

I've had a very bad cold the last three days and have kept guinea handling to a minimum, Oats has to have syringe twice a day so I tey to make sure it's done and he's back (god knows he doesn't need something else!)

I feel like death and Porridge keeps running for cover every time I bark a cough! Today I had to go out for further medication, human medication! and found a lovely patch of grass all overgrown and lovely, upturned my Boots bag and filled it for the boys. They were very appreciative!
