Hi All,

Just been checking Flora and Fleur over and noticed that Flora has mites. I thought they had been scratching a lot these past couple of days! Do they need to go to the vets or can I treat myself?

Thanks!

Louise

Are they mites or lice?

If I remember right...
Mites - vet job
Lice - lice n easy gorgeous guinneas is great. They are shut for Crimbo I think. I have some here you can use if it's lice.
Anne.

Hi Anne,

I can see them, they are close to Flora's rump and a wriggly. The pair of them have dried flakes on them and there has been minor moulting. When Cuzzy had mites he was red raw this isn't like this at all it's just near her rear end. I can't see any on Fleur but as I say they are both flakey.

Arghhh! Never rains! They are changed daily too so I'm thinking they have come in on the hay!

Thanks Anne,

Looks like running Lice to me! Well least they aren't mites. I couldn't see Cuzzy's at all. Poor wee girls, feel bad for them now. Thanks so much, can I collect from you tomorrow at all?

:'( :'( poor Fleur and Flora sorry to hear about this Louise :'( :'(
Lots of healing wheeks for the girls and Duke says some piggie kisses to as well :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks Glynis, one good thing, I will be meeting Anne tomorrow to get some Lice shampoo.

I'm just wondering and this is probably a silly question but can guinea pigs catch nits? Emily has had them and I had one or two and I'm just thinking this is a bit of a coinicidence. Or am I barking crackers? ;D

Girls are fine, they won't like their baths though, I haven't had to bath them yet, well, it will be fun and I'll end up soaking! :D

Wouldn't think so, do the lice look like nits?
The lice eggs on Nibbles looked like specks of dust.
Didn't spot any live ones.

I'm itching now. :D ;D :D ;D

That poses an interesting question, i've never heard of it talked of before..... why don't you try another thread up on here and see if anyone has heard about it O0
So glad Anne lives close to you and you can share the shampoo, tho i'm sure two little ladies wont be impressed ::) ::) :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: ;D ;D ;D ;D

edit: just saw Anne's reply ooooooooooo i'm now itching....

The lice look like worms, urgh! ;D and I've only noticed it on Flora. Fleur hates her rump being touched so I haven't been able to inspect her as much but will try later. I'll treat both girls though as Fleur does have the flakes too.

Just glad it isn't mites I hate those !

Little wrigglies, not like head lice then.

As for the itching, when I did catch them once of Connor, I didn't itch at all, only found them by chance. :D

Nope don't look like head lice, I've seen enough of them. I had 30 of them in my hair a couple of years back. Never had nits before and didn't know what was up until Emily started itching. I got them from a hairdressers and it was terrible...lol I felt so dirty! :D

nooooo bob has mites too :( he has an infection too so hes on antibiotics as well.

poor flora :( sending hugs for her :smitten:
