I was looking for a place that I could put the cage of the guinea pigs. I was planning on putting them on my desk, but I measured it and it’s too small. The only place I could put it is on the floor. Is it ok to put it on the floor?

HI!

Yes, no problem! Most of my own piggies have ground floor pens with a few cages up on Ikea linnmon 75x150 cm tables. (PS: The floor in my piggy room is wood imitation lino).

If you are worried about spoiling the floor, you can place the cage on a plastic dust sheet so any hay and debris end up on that. On a delicate wooden or laminates floor, you can alternatively place the cage on a towel to prevent scratching.

Thanks everyone! The reason I am asking is because I have heard that floor cages are bad. Now this makes everything much easier.

The only reason I didn't put my cage on the floor was because our floor is heated, but otherwise it would definitely be on the floor.

We have the cage on the floor and the playpen on the floor- I bought some waterproof plastic mats designed to go under babies high chairs to go underneath the playpen seeing as Piggle tunnels under the newspaper I put down and pees on my laminate flooring. She is mostly toilet trained but she likes to use the playpen toilet tray to land in when she jumps off the playhouse roof, spraying peed on wood shavings and poos all over the house... then she gets so excited she just has to pee on the floor!

I have my 4x2 cage on a large piece of plywood with casters on so that it can be moved around when necessary. We have fastened the cage to the wood with cable ties.
