Had the fright of my life yesterday morning 😳 Got up half asleep as usual and was going to the bathroom when I heard a squeak as I was walking out the bedroom door and thought it must be one of Ava's toys (it was still too dark to see anything) left on the floor, went to carry on walking and heard another squeak and something moved ( nearly jumped out of my skin). Turned the light only to find it was Alisa and not a toy on the floor. I scooped her up quick and gave her a thorough once over to check there was nothing wrong with her and went to check on the cage and how she got out and if anyone else had escaped. Ava was still sleeping so woke her up, checked the cage and the lid was pushed open slightly but all the other girls were happily munching hay.

It driving me mad wondering how she got out as she's such a fatty she doesn't really climb like the others. Only thing I can think of is she either did climb on top of the carrot house or hay rack and it nudged the lid open and she climbed out. Ava's bed is right next to the cage so she would have had a soft landing.

I even thought perhaps Kitty had climbed in the cage and grabbed her but she was out all night and didn't come back in until after this had happened so can't blame her.

Even entered my mind that perhaps my son had been sleep walking and piggie napped her from the cage 😂

But it's a mystery how she got out, only plus is that when I was checking her over I found a marblish size lump on her back that I've never felt before so she's off to see the vet on the weekend ☹️

Good job you had to get up and found her so quickly.
Well spotted with the lump - hope it’s nothing serious.
Serendipity

I know, gods knows how long she had been out and about wandering around.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed its nothing serious.

Let’s hope it was a one off escape and she hasn’t got a secret escape route you aren’t aware of.
Good luck at the vets.

What an adventure for Alisa and fright for you! Hope she gets on OK at the vets. Keep is informed

I'm stumped with how she got out they've been in the cage for 6 months with no escapes but I'm taking no chances and have been weighing the lid down every night so it can't be moved.

Thanks will let u know what the vets verdict is.

I wonder if she went back and told the girls about her adventure lol. I was wide awake pretty quick I was expecting to see a big black rat or something not one of the girls 😳

Will let u know what the vet says.

You have a little Houdini there x Clothes pegs are great for keeping little furries in cages I have found over the years.
Hope the lump is nothing to worry about x

Good idea with the pegs. I never thought I would end up having to lock a lid on a C&C cage.

Hopefully we will know tomorrow. It's funny but if you touch the lump there's no reaction but if you touch her just under it she yelps ☹️

Aw, Bless her!

Vet visit got cancelled as they had an emergency in so they cancelled this mornings appointments while they dealt with that 🙁 It's been rescheduled for Tuesday morning. Only thing is the exotics vet won't be there as he is now on holiday until after Christmas and the new year and I didn't want to wait that long but they said the vet is training to be an exotics vet so has some experience with Guinea pigs so fingers crossed she knows what she's doing.

I hope everything goes well for her on Tuesday. Red can escape from my C&C grid pen. He gets his nose under the grids and lifts them up and squeezes out underneath. He is a small piggy, I can't imagine one of my larger boars managing this.

Thanks 😊 That's something to look at and something I would never have thought of.

I started a new thread in the wellbeing and illness section on the vet visit.
