I was clipping the boys nails today and Boris yanked his foot last minute, somehow making me cut it shorter by accident :( It bled more then other times and for a little while I thought it had been ripped out entirely! Needless to say I STILL feel terrible :( I hate nail clipping :(

Oh dear, you know it happens to everybody at one time or another. ((((hugs))))

Awww, nail clipping sucks. We have never drawn blood yet, I dread the time it happens. Give Boris a cuddle from us and I am sure after some veggies he will have forgotten all about it.

Claw clipping is the worst part of piggy keeping I always think. 8 Years and I am still not used to it...

Aww don't worry these things happen pigs dont hold a grudge for long!

I have drawn blood a few times and it does make you feel bad but if you give the pigs an extra bit of veg they'll have forgotten in no time x

I've done that twice to my Hazelnut who wriggled at the last minute on the last nail to be cut each time. Felt just awful so do sympathise. Following a tip from a member on here, I now stuff his mouth with sprigs of parsley while cutting his nails. He never wriggles while eating & parsley is his fave. I can get 2 nails done per sprig.

Hi, what's wrong with filing baby's
nails with an emery board? Thanks

I took my piggies to the vets to have their nails done. And she cut hutch's nail short and his bled a bit.
so it happens to the professionals lol

Hi, can somebody explain to me why not use a plain nail file or a sandpaper block to gently file down the nails? Thanks

Hi, it's the only way I can do it, putting a nail clipper or scissor to the piggy's feet is an unimaginably bad idea. Why not just file the nails down a little bit and brush the coat everyday, doing a health check?

I avoid it at all costs and leave it to my husband to do! Will definitely try nail filing instead - great idea!

I have a 5 month baby and I nipped her thumb when she was three months old too. It's just the worse feeling ever. I cried and cried!

I hate nail clipping, whenever I get to close to cutting it short the piggies actually squeak at me or bite me.
Good for when you've put the pressure on, but bad if the squeak or bite makes me jump.

I haven't drew blood... only one time where Maple's nail was growing weird I picked it off and it started bleeding for ages
I just cut the tips off now... or make the OH do it :P - can't even bribe them too

My baby pigs hate the nail clippers, but their nails are growing at a crazy rate so it needs doing often! I'm very wary of trying a nail file, would it not upset them more? It takes longer and they have to sit still for it. Anyone tried this before?

Also one of them has just one black nail out of all her toes! It may only be one but its very nerve racking to cut as I can't see the quick in it. It seems to grow differently too.

I've tried the emery board but Hazelnut won't stay still long enough & I got worried about holding his toes too hard for so long. Afraid I might break something. However, now that I've discovered munching on parsley keeps him still I will re-try the emery board.

My boys are short-hair so don't really need brushing but they looooove getting their backs brushed with a baby brush.
