Ok so my Step mums in a rescue witch means I'm always helping with rescue pigs and a guinea pig came in by the name of Ginger nut. His owner didnt bother to bath him or give him the appropriate grooming so he got alot of mites. Not only that but he started going bald. So when we finally reached him he was almost bald. We worked really hard on him, to help get him better demite etc @)
He was a surprisingly happy guinea pig for the state he was in, unfortunately the poor guinea pig died a few weeks in of trying to get him back to health.
All because one owner couldn't be bothered to spend a few minutes grooming or bathing. I see a lot of guinea pig owners (Not on here) Say that they don't need baths or anything but Ginger Nut proved that they do. I really do feel awful for him and i hope that no other pigs end up like he did just had to share. 8...

Obviously Ginger Nut was badly neglected, but plenty of well cared for (and bathed) piggies come down with mites, they just need to be treated promptly with the right stuff (usually a spot on) and all is well.

So sorry for your loss. But baths don't prevent mites. They need to be treated with ivermection or revolution.

Really sorry about your piggy 8...

That's a sad way for a little pigwig to go. I'm sorry for your loss.

I do have to agree with the other posters though, that guinea pigs don't actually need baths. They don't bathe in the wild, and can clean themselves perfectly well. Some pigs obviously enjoy a bath though!

Poor little lad will be popcorning & munching somewhere sunny!

Committed to Cavy Care

I was surprised to discover how my Peruvian boar needs so much grooming for his hair, nails, fur, and so forth on a daily basis.

I consider it a learning experience because once I have fallen in love with this pig, I can't stop hugging him.

Learning to be courageous and remembering how resilient and tender Twenty-twenty is, I feel its worth the extra care.

I totally agree with you and thank you for all support still really sad about him, as i added *grooming* was added in there meaning mite care, but he was long haired well supposed to be and had dried dirt and who knows stuck in what was left of his fur I'm really angry with the person who neglected him. He was so sweet and after the mite care when we bathed him he actually wasnt scared of the bath at all he was enjoying it :( miss him heaps and no matter how long ago it is i wont ever forget him.
