I switched the pigs over to the IC diet a while ago when their wees started to look very sandy on the fleece. However, green beans don't seem to go down very well with Milan (Hugo wasn't fussed either) and we've not yet tried them with our new little princess but is there anything else that can substitute green beans? Or is it best to leave them out and just give the rest of the veg?

May I ask what this stands for and why you would use this diet?
I don't know an awful lot about it to be honest. It stands for interstitial cystitis diet. My boys had quite sandy wees so I got recommended to try this diet a while ago. If I remember rightly, the levels of calcium and phosphorous etc are balanced so its a well balanced overall veg diet. The piggy still has their unlimited hay, a limited amount of pellets but the IC diet is their veg, they have:

1 slice of cucumber
2 slices of celery
1 slice of bell pepper
1 sprig of corriander
1 piece of spring greens
1 green bean
Per pig, twice daily.

It was put together originally by an old friend who spent ages researching bladder issues and used to volunteer at a vets and run a piggy clinic. IC stands for Interstitial cystitis and it was originally to help pigs with that but also went towards helping prevent other bladder issues too.

It's a pity we can't reference to this diet - but there is nowhere on the internet to reference to.

The veg on the IC diet are recommended as daily veg in this thread ...

Recommendations For A Balanced General Guinea Pig Diet

There may be some information on The Knowledgeable Cavy Community Facebook page but I am unable to access it. There may not be anything new added though as she has recently retired.

As far as I'm aware this is a basic low calcium diet, nothing new.
I made the extra effort, to go all low calcium a while back after going through a phase where all my pigs had UTI's, my boarder at the time was using the above plus baby corn, little gem lettuce.
Each week I buy bell peppers, celery, cucumber, baby corn, little gem lettuce and carrot and chop all of it up into small pieces and keep in a huge tub in the fridge. Plus it sames time in the morning before work ;)
They get the odd piece of fruit once or twice a week such as a grape each or a couple of blue berries and some extra salad leaves.
It's not something that everyone HAS to do and by all means mix it up, not all pigs like the same things but it's a good mix to get into the habit of feeding.
